Ramzan Eid Celebration in India

Ramzan Eid Celebration in India

Eid-Ul-Fitr is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims. It is celebrated after a month long of fasting in the holy month of Ramzan. Read on to learn the real meaning of Eid and how it is celebrated.

Eid is a festival of Muslims and its significance is purely spiritual. They keep fast during the whole month of Ramadan and on the festival day they celebrate along with giving thanks to Allah, the God for giving them the strength, will and endurance to observe the fast through the month and obey His commandment as well.

Significance of Eid

Eid signifies recurring happiness or festivity. The prayer that is said on Eid or Eid Salat is very important for all Muslims. This falls when the holy month of Ramadan ends in which the holy book of Quran was revealed.
It is a thanksgiving day for Muslims when they assemble in a brotherly and happy atmosphere and they offer their gratitude to God together for helping them fulfil their spiritual duty prior to Eid. This thanksgiving is not restricted to spiritual devotion and verbal expressions. It goes beyond that to manifest itself of social and humanitarian spirit.

Eid Celebration

Eid is celebrated at the end of the month of Ramadan when Muslims keep fast which is called ‘Roza’. They keep the fast from dawn to dusk during which they do not even drink water. They believe that fasting reminds them of their sense of responsibility. They consider Eid-Ul-Fitr as a reward for their month long fasting.

What do Muslims do on the Day of Eid?

The Muslims who have completed the fasting during the month of Ramadan give alms to the poor and needy on this festival day. This day is also termed as a day of remembrance. Muslims gather together for the prayer and start their day with the plural session of worship to God. They include all people, dead and alive in their prayer and pray for them.
It is believed that Eid is the harvest day when all the faithful believers reap the fruit of their deed on that day. God is said to grant his mercy and blessings in abundance that day.
Eid is a day of forgiveness and Muslims gather in the mosque and pray whole heartedly for forgiveness and strength of faith.
It is believed that many Muslims take pledge on this day to dedicate their lives to the cause of humanity because this is the best way to show their love to God.

Eid - More Than a Religious Festival

The most unique thing about Eid is that it is not just a religious festival but also carries social connotation. People meet each other and visit the homes of their friends and relatives. They decorate their houses, wear new clothes and prepare delicious traditional sweets and cuisine.
If you visit the market before Eid you will find that it is filled with fascinating items. Right from decorative items to clothing and jewellery as well as sweets and other prepared food items, you will find yourself confused with different aroma and choices around.

Eid for Children

For children this is the day when they wear new clothes, get good and special food and sweets and along with that they get Eidi, which is in the form of money or gifts but is a token of love and blessings from their elders.
The celebration continues for three days and is celebrated in many parts of the globe. Even many non-Muslims visit their Muslim friend’s house and participate in their joy and festivity. In Muslim countries they get holiday for all the three days. Many add cultural elements to Eid even though they follow the traditional way of celebration.

What kind of schedule is followed on the day of Eid? Which food items are prepared on the occasion of Eid? Why is Eid celebration significant for children? Discuss here.
