Adventure Holidays

Instead of taking a regular vacation, why not put some adventure into it? Your kids will have a better time, and so will you!

Horse Riding

Almost all vacation spots in India offer horse rides to children and adults. This can be a lot of fun, but what will be even more fun is if your child learns horseriding. If you are staying at the resort, you can phone in before reaching and tell them that you would be intersted in making your child learn horseriding, and if they can make the necessary arrangments. If you are going with a group of friends or family, you could inform them that there would be quite a few children who would be interested in joining the class. The resort should be able to arrange something for you. It makes sense for you to be around during the class because your child's instructors will probably be of a very average level, but they should in any case be able to give your child a tips on riding a horse. All it really takes is a little technique and some practice. After all, you are not training your child to compete, you are just equipping him with another skill. Be warned that if you child falls off a gallopping horse, he may be very badly injured, so you may not want to encourage him to start gallopping unless he is under the tutelage of a qualfied instructor.

Skiing

If you are taking your child to a snow-capped mountain, make sure you go skiing. One of the more popular skiing vacation spots in India is Auli. However, skiing season at Auli is in the months of November, December and January. They have skiing instructors, and you can hire skis from the resort itself. Although skiing has not caught on so widely in India, it is a very popular adventure sport in the west.

Water Sports

If you are vacationing on a beach, encourage your child take part in the water sports. The sports are very safe, and you can watch over your child. But it would be a shame if you prevent your child from enjoying himself because of your fears. While it would be perfectly understandable if you do want your child to indulge in anything foolhardy or something which appears difficult or dangerous, you should not have a problem with letting your child parktake in some of the more milder forms of water sports. If your child is scared of water, the worst thing you can do is to push him in the pool against his will. Coax him gently into the shallow side, where he can stand on his legs with his head above the water, so he feels safe. Usually water slides end in very shallow water, so you could then coax your child down a water slide, after he sees for himself how shallow the water is. Water slides can be great fun as long as they are not very steep and your child's fear of water will disappear.

Goa, Kerala and certain resorts in the Lakshadweep offer infracture for water sports, and they also have trained instructors, lifeguards and medical facilities at hand.
