Indigestion and Heartburn Is indigestion normal? How will it affect my baby Yes. Your body is producing large
amounts of progesterone and estrogen, which in turn relaxes smooth muscle
tissue all over even in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The food, therefore,
moves slowly through your system, resulting in bloating. This allows better
absorption of nutrients into your blood stream, into the placenta and into
your baby's system. So though it causes you discomfort, it is good for
the baby.
Is there anyway to avoid indigestion and heartburn You can minimize it by eating 6 small meals instead of 3 large ones. Avoid spicy, fried and fatty foods, meat, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, spearmint, peppermint and cigarettes. When you eat, chew properly and eat slowly. Avoid gaining excessive weight and do not wear tight clothes. Sleep with your head elevated 6 inches and when bending, do it with your knees and not at the waist. Most importantly, learn to relax. If none of this helps, you may ask your doctor to prescribe a low sodium antacid. To add your views on this article or read others comments Click Here
