Postnatal Diet and Healthcare Tips

New mothers should take right care of their postnatal diet and health so that they can breastfeed their babies properly. Right postnatal care can help new mothers to stay healthy as well as grow a healthy baby. Read on to find more about the postnatal diet and health care.

Every woman wants to come back to her original shape as soon as possible after the childbirth. One of the unavoidable facts is that they are not allowed to follow any weight loss program or diet immediately after the child birth. This becomes all the more important when the woman is breastfeeding her child.

Rest and proper nutritious diet is recommended for few days after the child birth. Once your doctor suggests you to follow an exercise regimen, you can easily follow it. Along with diet there are other factors also that affect your weight loss. Your hormones change during this time and you experience mood swings also most often.

But, you should not worry about all these things. These go off after sometime and if you have a well nutritious diet and follow the right exercise regimen, you will come back in your shape very soon. Just have patience and work on the program regularly.

Calories

Even if you are not recommended to go on diet you can watch out your calories. First find out what is the ideal calorie intake of a lactating mother and then try to avoid anything over that. Also, avoid fried and very rich food items that are extremely high in calories.

Remember, you should never stay starved when you are nursing your baby. One of the most remarkable benefits of breastfeeding is that it helps the uterine muscles to contract and this will help you have a healthy, safe and steady weight loss too.

Water

Make sure you have a close watch on your water intake. This is extremely important and be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. This is again important when you are breastfeeding your newborn. If you stay hydrated more milk will be produced and it will help you feel energetic the whole day too.

Usually 2 – 3 liters of water is enough for a normal person but lactating mothers should have at least 4 liters of water or other liquids daily.

Meals

Keep your meals simple yet nutritious. Prepare ahead of time so that if you feel tired you may end up eating some quick fix meal which would do nothing but add up fat on your body. Try to have at least one well balanced meal per day. Keep fresh fruits and vegetables at home so that when you feel hungry you do not grab any snack or cookies or high and empty calorie food items.

Exercise

Even if it is too early, you can start having small and slow walk which you may increase as and when recommended by the doctor. If your doctor allows, you can start with yoga asanas and pranayamas that are helpful in bringing back your shape. Yoga will help you stay free from stress and anxiety which is two obvious feelings that new mothers experience usually.

The main thing is that you will have to be conscious and select food items very prudently. This is because obviously you have put on some weight during pregnancy period. Be watchful about your intake and pay attention to nutrition. Take up safe and healthy weight loss goal. It is advisable that you must be persistent and determined and give your target a time. Be realistic about your weight loss and in setting goal and achieving it.

Is drinking more water after delivery a good idea? Will this not dilute the milk?
