Straight from the Heart This poem by R. Scott Stahl describes the wish that led to the formation of Make-A-Wish, U.S.A. in 1980. Do you believe in Fairy Godmothers and Fairy Godfathers, too? Well you should you know, they make wishes come true. How do I know, you ask with a grin? It's a wonderful story, so let me begin.
The boy was heard to say "A motorcycle policeman is what I want to be, is there anyway you can do that for me? Now that it's known, the fairy could say, this little boy would soon have his day.... The boy Chris Greicius that was his name. No one knew then, but he was destined for fame. Motorcycle engines set the tone, as the Police officers began to arrive at Chris' home. Chris heard the motors and cracked a smile. The glare could be seen for over a mile. Chris was immediately filled with joy and the officers fell in love with this little boy. A tour was planned on his behalf. Anything at all to make him laugh. A Bell Ranger helicopter flew him to town, and the rest of the day was about to go down. A day full
of pleasures and wonderful things and now it's official, Chris had motorcycle
wings. He hugged all his buddies and said "Thanks for the day" and they
fired up their motors and rode away.
The fairy did smile as she looked at the boy. What a wonderful thing, this emotion called "joy". I'm glad I could share this, I'm glad I could see, how wonderful, at times, a boy's 1ife can be. The story is told and I think easy to see, this little boy meant a great deal to me. The boy was a model, sent from above. His mission in life, "Caring and Love". His days were tough and filled with strife, but if you looked into his eyes, they were filled with 1ife. Chris left
a message that he wanted done. "Help little kids just have fun"! A foundation
was formed with him in mind, its primary purpose to be warm and kind. Find
all the children, and find them fastGrant their wishes and make the
memories last.
