Effects of obesity on health


Obesity can be responsible for various health disorders. The effects of obesity on health can be minimal if considerable changes in lifestyle are made


In olden time obesity and overweight were considered to be the signs of wealthy and prosperous people. However in today's world the proverb "health is wealth" seems to have more significance in day to day life. The trend of gym and fitness is spreading like fire. Weight gain and obesity have become a common problem leading to a number of health problems. More than just physical looks obesity can take a toll on health. Read on and know more about the effects of obesity on health.


Major effects of obesity on human health

There are several other reasons for health disorders than obesity. However an obese person has a higher risk of getting disorders like heart problems, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, gallstone, gout and so on. Have a quick look at how obesity proves to be responsible for such diseases.

Hypertension

Hypertension is also known as high blood pressure. When the blood pressure is 140/90 or greater, it is considered as hypertension. A study concludes that about 65 to 80 percent individual diagnosed with hypertension are obese. Hypertension is caused as a result of increased pressure in arteries. Though its cause is unknown, there is a possibility of being over-weight the contributing factor for increased pressure in the arteries. Hypertension is responsible for various other heart disorders in obese. Such heart disorders are critical factor for increase in mortality rate.

Gallstones

Gallstones are solid masses of cholesterol developed in gallbladder. These stones are developed when cholesterol level is high. When cholesterol level is high it is difficult for body to maintain its solubility, resulting in formation of gallstones. Complication can be created if gallstones get trapped in gallbladder. Therefore early diagnosis and treatment of gallstones is critical.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a disorder relating to bone joints. It is caused as a result of damage to the cartilage tissue, which supports joints. This damage results in more friction in joints, causing pain and swelling. It affects the joints of hand, knee, hip and spine. This disorder makes it difficult to perform the normal movements like climbing steps etc. excessive pain is caused due to movement of joints.

Gout

Gout is caused as a result of increased level of uric acid or sodium urate in the blood. As the level of sodium urate or uric acid increases, it is difficult for body to maintain it solubility. This condition in body results in formation of crystals. It can affect any person in any age. In very rare cases gout can be caused due to illness or to the people recovering form surgeries.

Diabetes

This disorder is caused when body is unable to convert starch, sugar and other food in energy. This disability of body is due to lack of hormone insulin or its proper use. It is classified in three types as type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. It is necessary to control this disorder to avoid complications like kidney failure, heart diseases etc.

Cancer

According to experts, obesity can also be a factor causing colon cancer, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, cancer of kidney and esophagus. It can also be responsible for cancers of gallbladder, pancreas and ovaries.

Stroke

Stroke is caused due to blood clotting in brain or disrupted supply of oxygenated blood to brain. This deficiency in supply of blood is caused as result of cholesterol accumulation in brain arteries. When the level of cholesterol is high it deposits are formed in heart which then travel to brain causing stroke. Stroke can cause disorders like paralysis, difficulty in breathing, unconsciousness, weakness in face muscles etc.


Though obesity exposes human body to certain risks, it is possible to avoid them. Weight loss treatment, various exercises and yogic posses are very helpful to control obesity. It is very essential to have a healthy and fit lifestyle to avoid such dreadful disorders. Changes in diet pattern can also prove to be miraculous to lose weight. Overcoming obesity is not about looking fit but all about feeling fit and having a balanced mind. You just need to posses a little patience and hard work which will change your life totally.
