VAAL NI DAL NO PULAO Recipe | | Main Course Recipe by Tarla Dalal |
| | INGREDIENTS | 3 cups sprouted field beans (Surti vaal dal)
2 cups uncooked rice
Salt to taste
For the tempering
2 cloves
2 sticks cinnamon
1 tablespoon raisins
A pinch asafoetida (hing)
2 green chillies, chopped
1/4 teaspoon chilli powder
4 tablespoons oil
For the garnish
Chopped coriander
Grated coconut
| | METHOD | Boil the rice and keep aside. Each grain of the cooked rice should be separate.
Boil the vaal dal separately and mix with the rice, adding salt. Keep aside.
Prepare the tempering by heating the oil, adding the cloves, cinnamon, raisins, asafoetida, green chillies and chilli powder and frying for a while.
Pour this over the rice and vaal dal.
Cover and cook on a slow flame for 10 to 15 minutes.
Serve hot garnished with the chopped coriander and grated coconut.
