HUSH PUPPIES Recipe | Starters and Snacks Recipe by Kevin Tighe |
| INGREDIENTS | 1½ cups flour
1½ cups corn meal
½ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 tblspn sugar
1 egg
1 small onion, minced
0.75 cups milk | METHOD | 1. Sift dry ingredients together. Beat egg well, combine with milk and add to remaining ingredients to the dry ingredients. Make a batter.
2. Drop hush puppies into hot grease by the teaspoonful into hot grease where they take about 1 minute to cook.
3. Remember to cook on both sides if grease is low. Excellent when frying trout.
4. These are traditionally made when frying fish and almost always served with fish in place of bread, rice, potatoes, etc. (or, hey, along side of them) |
