Energize Yourself

Mothers seem to be tired all the time. Here are quick tips to boost energy levels instantly.

Mothers, be they new moms or mothers of older kids, seem to be tired all the time. When a woman is young and single, she has all the energy in the world. When she gets married, she takes on additional responsibility, and when she becomes a mother, that responsibility is doubled - or tripled! She now takes care of the household needs, her children's needs, and, if she is working, then office responsibilities too fall on her shoulders. Sandwiched between so many duties, it is not surprising that the one person a mother often neglects is herself. If this sounds all too familiar, you need help energizing and rejuvenating yourself and your body.

Pedicure

You probably go to the beauty parlour once a month for your waxing appointment. Make it a point to pamper yourself too, at this stage. Pedicures can be very relaxing as they usually include a foot massage and, along with the relaxation, they make your feet more beautiful and keep them well moisturized. And with the running around you do, your feet do need pampering. If you would rather save the money, do a pedicure yourself - it can be just as relaxing. For a very basic pedicure all you really need is a small tub of soapy hot water, cream and a pumice stone. Sit back in a chair with your feet soaked in the tub of soapy hot water. Take them out after around five minutes and scrub your feet with the pumice stone. When you are done, massage the cream in. Massage each foot for ten minutes, applying generous amounts of cream. Do this once a week, and your feet will remain in soft, sensational condition. You can get your kids involved by asking them to massage your feet.

Posture

Sit up straight. Slouching drains us of energy, hinders digestion, circulation and respiration, as the breath does not reach the lower half of your lungs. A good posture is especially important if you are sleep-deprived, like new moms often are. Make it a matter of habit to keep pulling yourself up straight. Tuck your abdomen and chin in, push your shoulders back and lift yourself up as though you are being pulled straight by a string. Then, take a deep breath and feel the energy flow back into you.

Lemon

It is not just an advertising gimmick when you see lemon soaps being advertised as refreshing. The scent of lemon stimulates an area of the brain which controls wakefulness. So every time you feel tired, drained and low on energy but still have lots of running around to do, give yourself a boost by sniffing a lemon. Then, drink a quick glass of lemon water and you're all set.

Nap

Quick naps can do wonders to refresh you, so if you are one of those people who can just shut their eyes and fall off to sleep, count yourself lucky. Others find it easier to fall asleep after lunch, so if you are not a working mum and can afford to nap after lunch, do so. In all likelihood, your kids will be napping after lunch too, so it is best that you take a quick nap along with your kids. Don't sleep for too long if you have millions of things to do, as sleep-induced inertia may kick in and you may feel even more languid when you wake up. Even a fifteen-minute nap in the middle of the day can do wonders to energize yourself.
