The father may not have given birth to the child, but that does not mean that he will not feel the surge of emotion and pride of being a 'father' on seeing his own flesh and blood? A father has to bond with his baby as much as the mother, no doubt.

If a father does not have a bond with a child right from a childhood, then when a kid grows up he does not realises the importance of the relationship of father-son/daughter. For a kid he is just an another human with whom he is staying. There will not be any feelings or emotional attachment from either side. Kid might even feel that he is a "neglected child" Once kid grows up then it is very difficult to build the base of the relationship since then it is not just the fathers ego which comes inbetween to break the ice but now even kid has reached an age where even he feels that "why should i bend down to start a conversation, when till date my father has not approached me or shown interest in doing that"?
