Home Accessories

We often spend a fortune on purchasing items to make our homes look beautiful, and a few years later, we start yearning for a new look. The best we can do is to move furniture around - although this is not an option if you have mostly immovable furniture or if your home has been decorated professionally by an interior decorator, with everything in its place.

Here are some versatile accessories worth investing in, as you can use them in various ways to change the look of your home, keeping it looking beautiful through the years.

Throw

Make sure you purchase at least one throw. You can use it in many ways to make your home look charming and cozy. Don't just buy the first throw you like. Ensure that your throw has the same colours as in your living room and in your bedroom, so you can place it in either room.

Along with the throw, pick up matching cushions so you have a complete set.

When expecting company, place the throw over your sofas to give it an instant warm and cozy look. Add the matching cushions on the sofas, and you're all set!

Another great option would be to place the throw over your bedcover to give your room an instant facelift. It is always a good bet to have solid bedcovers in a single shade. This really helps accessories like throws and cushions to stand out. Place the throw over your bedcover or over your comforter, and place the matching cushions between your pillows.

You could use the throw as a light blanket whenever you're sitting around and need something light to cover you.

If you have a pretty, decorative throw, you could even hang it on your wall. Use it either framed and set in glass, or unframed, to instantly dress up a wall. Hang it up in the passage, and place a wide brass container on the floor below, with water and flower petals that match your throw. Or, hang it on the wall behind your sofa, and place the matching cushions on your sofa.

If you hang it up without a frame, you could always remove it and use it in another manner after a while.

Flowers

Fresh flowers are a great way to instantly decorate a room and add a finishing touch. Chances are, in addition to the main colour scheme of a room, you would be having a second, accent colour. Pick up flowers in this accent colour.

Plants

Plants are the most economical way to decorate your home. Not only are they cheap, but plants lead to more plants, and even more decoration items. Simply moving plants around can give your home a new look.

Make sure you have plants in various colours - not just green. You could get plants with maroon leaves, striped leaves, spotted, yellow leaves, white leaves and so on. Get a mixture of small and large plants. Don't just let plant stand on the floor. You could hang them, place smaller ones on tables, place them on stands or windowsills and so on.

Fruit bowl

Place fruits in your fruit bowl.

Fill it up with water and float a few candles or petals in it.

Place a wired sponge in it and let it hold a plant or flower arrangement.
