![]() BritannicaIndia.com announces the sixth BIG Award
IndiaParenting.com is a guide to pregnancy and child care. The site provides articles on fertility, child development, parenting, women's health, common diseases, and interactive sessions with specialists. It also features stories from the Mahabharata and the Panchatantra. The fifth BIG award announced last month, was bagged by IndiaWrites.com. IndiaWrites.com is an E-zine on Indian literature, with a focus on Indo-Anglican writing. The site includes features, reviews, and author specials. The juried Britannica Internet Guide Award, or BIG Award, is designed to recognize India's progress and achievement on the World Wide Web. Given by BritannicaIndia.com (www.britannicaindia.com), to a Web site created specifically for the India audience by Britannica.com Inc., the BIG Award seeks to define benchmarks against which websites in India will be judged. Britannica's Internet Guide (BIG) is part of the larger BritannicaIndia.com site, which provides users with timely and reliable information along an impressive range of topics through original content and features developed by the company's editorial and educational teams, content from the world's most respected encyclopedia and leading reference sources and articles from scores of top magazines and newspapers. The Internet Guide consists of sites chosen for their quality by Britannica's editors. It steers users to accurate, reliable sources on the Web and past potentially unreliable information. "The Britannica Internet Guide (BIG) is a navigation service that makes real progress toward the goal of finding reliable information on the Internet, " said Aalok Wadhwa, Managing Director, Britannica.com India (Pvt.) Ltd. "Other services turn up hundreds of irrelevant sites, and there is no way to tell good sources from questionable ones. Our editors make it easy for people to quickly locate authoritative and useful information on thousands of topics. This is a service that's perfect for both serious and casual Web users." The award for overall excellence on the Web is given every month to a website comprising content pertaining to India. The monthly awards will culminate in the annual awards that will be given in four major categories - Overall Excellence on the Web, Content, Design, and Technological Excellence. The BIG Award is presented to exemplary websites that re-define standards of excellence. The procedure of selection is that five sites are nominated by BritannicaIndia.com editors and sent to members of the jury, who award points to each site to determine the winner. Web sites are
judged on the basis of how well they enhance the user experience beyond
basic "navigation" and "usability". The judging panel scores nominees across
four salient aspects of the site - content, design, interactivity, and
technology. The jury on the BIG Award includes noted musician Ms. Shubha
Mudgal; editor and Vice President of Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc., Dr.
Dale Hoiberg; "net-preneur" Mr. Pradeep Kar; economist Professor Bibek
Debroy; creative director of Britannica.com Inc., Ms Melissa Moore; and
the special advisor to the CEO of Britannica.com Inc., Mr. Kent Devereaux.
