Dassera is one of the most important Hindu festivals. It is a festival that celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over Lord Ravana of Lanka. The effigy burns up with a huge display of fireworks that are stored inside it. Children have a gala time watching the fireworks, followed by the entertainment displayed by the enactment of the Ram-Leela. I still remember my childhood days, when we used to watch
ramleela at night. It was thrilling experience. We also looked forward to ravan dhana. i liked the fireworks when Ram killed Ravana with an arrow
Dasshera is a grand affair in Northern India. Ramleela are organized in many parts and on the last day, effigy of Ravan is consigned to flames. It is really a sight to see with great display of fireworks.
On dusshera, we do puja at home in the morning with 10 items in bhog. after puja, we usually have the bhog for lunch and do not eat onion or garlic that day.
