How to Build Kindness in Toddlers and Preschoolers

How to Build Kindness in Toddlers and Preschoolers
Kindness is something that does not come in naturally. You have to build the tendency and habit of benevolence and thoughtfulness in your child if you want him to grow up to be a wonderful human being. Read on to learn what you can do to build kindness even in your toddlers and preschoolers.
Studies show that by doing small acts of kindness people end up doing extensive acts of compassion even if they had no intention to do that. A number of rescuers agree with the statement that when they take up the rescue work they intend to give limited help, but as soon as they get involved, their commitment grows.

Tips to Build Kindness in Toddlers and Preschoolers

Have a quick look at the tips for building kindness in your toddler or preschooler.

Appreciate Kindness

The same thing that works with the elders, work well with the children also. This means that when children will realize that their acts of kindness get appreciated, they will automatically turn up to do some always. After some time this will become a part of their character and they will not have to take any additional effort. For this, you should make sure that your child gets those opportunities to extend kindness.

Encourage Your Children to Help

Children have a tendency to help. As a parent you should make sure you nurture and guide your child’s natural inclination so that it becomes a lifelong habit.

Be a Role Model

Children usually learn what they see their parents do. They will automatically become helpful and kind by watching you.

Teach Respects for Earth and Environment

Make use of the dustbins made in the parks and outdoor places. Never litter and if possible clean up the mess created by other people too so that the message gets conveyed to your child that we should respect and keep our Mother Earth clean. You can also collect the things that could be recycled and take it to the recycle plant.

Perform Small Acts of Kindness Together

If your friend is sick or on maternity leave, make and pack lunch box for her elder child who goes to school and send her off so that she does not miss the studies and simultaneously gets some motherly care too while her mother gets some rest and peace of mind. Make sure you have your child with you so that he learns by watching that helping anyone in need makes the other person happy.

Encourage Helping Family Members

Instead of doing all the work on your own, you should take help from your children by involving them in household chores. You all live together and it is everyone’s duty to keep the home clean and tidy. Charity begins at home so encourage your child to help family members.

Do Not Criticize Their Effort

When kids will start doing household chores they may not do that properly initially. Be prepared for the simple mistakes that every first time doer makes. If you become impatient, you can turn a teachable situation into a missed opportunity. Remember, you are preparing them to step proudly into the outside world.

Say ‘thank you’ When Needed –

Even if the pizza delivery boy hands you pizza, it is good to say ‘thank you’. Sometimes a simple acknowledgement is enough to teach your child manners and helpfulness.

Be a Good Neighbour -

If anyone who is old and is living in your neighbourhood, you should offer help to him or her. Involve your child whenever you get an opportunity to help someone in need.
There are plenty of ideas that can help build in kindness in your children. The main thing is it, you start implementing them now.

Nice article!
More than teaching kids what to do and how to do. It is always better to make them understand by doing such things in front of them. This will realize the importance the work and also it will be a little encouragement for kids to start with it.

Yaa, I agree with Hiten. It totally depends on parents to create an environment at home which can help children to be kind and helpful.
