Top 5 Home Remedies for Treating Cold in Children
Cold is one of the common illnesses in children. Do you want to treat or prevent cold in your children? Here are some home remedies to protect children against colds.
Children are often affected by cold, cough, etc. It is not always possible to take over-the-counter-medications; hence mothers often look for home remedies or simpler alternatives. Home remedies are one of the best methods to cure sickness, because they generally have no side effects and are available easily. Ask your child to take rest if he or she is down with cold.
Here are some home remedies for common colds in kids. These are simple remedies which can be prepared at home itself. However, if nothing works, then you should not hesitate to consult a doctor.
If your child is allergic to any of the ingredients mentioned below, you must avoid giving them to your child. Make sure that you check the temperature of warm water and drinks mentioned below before giving it to your child so that it does not burn your child’s mouth.

1. Ginger Milk

Combine milk, sugar and some ginger in a vessel. Heat the ingredients and pour into a cup after straining. Give it to your child when it cools down. Ginger milk is a wonderful home remedy for common cold in kids. Ginger and garlic both have some great anti-bacterial properties and anti-biotic properties. You can add some cinnamon to the ginger milk. Cinnamon (Dalcheeni) also kills the cold virus.

2. Turmeric Milk

Winter has arrived and the weather is quite cold. In order to protect your kids from the cold and flu, keep a glass of turmeric milk handy. Add some turmeric to warm milk and ask your child to sip it. It is a great immune booster. Apart from cold, this popular medicinal drink is good for soothing coughs also. It is a natural, age-old remedy followed by many.

3. Garlic Soup

Garlic and onion soup is very good for this season. You can even add chicken pieces and butter along with vegetable broth to the soup. Add some salt in the end. Drinking this soup in winter and rainy season can prevent even the symptoms of cold from occurring. Garlic has great anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties. It is tasty. Add many garlic cloves if you want it strong.

4. Tulsi Tea

This is again one of the age old remedies followed since ancient times to combat cold and flu. Add a few leaves of Tulsi (holy basil) leaves to milk and boil to make a tea. You can even add some ginger if you like. Tulsi helps to relieve throat pain and cough along with cold. Ask your child to sip it every couple of hours. Drink warm Tulsi and ginger tea to soothe the throat and lungs.

5. Honey and Lemon

There is no milk involved in this recipe. Take some warm water and add honey along with drops of lemon juice. It alleviates the cold and improves a blocked nose. Your child will feel fresh and much better after drinking this. A glass of warm honey and lemon water taken every morning is great for the system. Adults can also drink it as it helps to reduce the weight as well.
Sudden change in climate can trigger a cold. Ask your kid to avoid going out near dust and polluted areas. Cold which is not cured can lead to throat pain; cough and flu also hence try to treat the infection as soon as your child catches it.
Apart from the above remedies, one can also prepare green tea for children affected by colds. Ask your child to stick to warm liquids and avoid cold things like ice-creams, etc. If nothing is available, ensure that your kid continuously sips warm water all through the day.

Tulsi leaves are the best for treating cold and cough in children. There is no home remedy like tulsi for treating cold and cough in children. Every parent must have tulsi plant in garden so that the leaves can be utilized anytime.
