ALL PARENTS WANT THE BEST for their children, but when it comes to procuring books, most do not have information about the recent titles from publishers around the world. Scholastic school book clubs assist children and parents in making the right choice by providing, every quarter, the opportunity to pick from age-appropriate sets of the latest and the finest books, in English and Hindi, and CD-ROMs. 

The club titles indude picture and activity books, works of fiction and non-fiction, books on science and other titles for learning, and reference works. These books are offered at lower-than-market prices, even lower than our own book fair prices.

We run three Scholastic school book clubs - for preschoolers to class 3, classes 4 & 5, and classes 6 to 8. Thrice a year, we make preliminary selection of books and CD-ROMs suitable for the intended age groups. Members of our advisory group cornprising educators from well-known schools examine these, and titles approved unanimously are offered through beautifully designed annotated lists called Student News.

The student news is distributed among children in supportive schools. Children take it home, and study it along with their parents. Children wanting to buy one or more titles, mark them on the order form, and bring the order to the school, with the payment. Our educational coordinators collect the orders, and supply the books, in separate packets for each child, within a fortnight.

The delivery of packets through the schools generates excitement for reading. The reading environment in the schools is also improved by Book Talks and other activities organised by the educational coordinators. Further, the schools gains by picking comptimentary books for their libraries.

By accepting Scholastic school book clubs, more than 2000 schools have already made this reading promotion service available to around 2,200,000 families. Some of them avail of the service by placing orders, and the others don't. But, even such families benefit from the information about age appropriate titles, including many not available in the market.
