MISAL - VERY POPULAR MAHARASHTRIAN DISH Recipe | Snacks Recipe by reluctant_chef |
| INGREDIENTS | Perfect for breakfast or any time of the day
(This traditional maharashtrian dish is ideally made with motth, but since I did not have motth, I have used sprouted mung ...which is a good substitute. Also to really enjoy Misal, best when topped with thick sev and accompanied with pau or bread)
Ingredients:
Soaked Chana (white vatana)
Sprouted Mung
Onions
Tomatoes
Potatoes (optional)
Bay leaves
Garlic Ginger paste
Green chillies paste
Cinnamon
Black pepper (kalimirch)
Chilli powder
Oil
Haldi
Jeera (cumin seeds)
Salt
Corriander leaves
Thick sev or mixed farsaan (something crunchy) as topping | METHOD | Heat oil in a cooker, sautee jeera, kadipatta or bay leaves, green chilly-garlic-ginger paste and onions. Once onions are golden brown, add finely chopped tomatoes, chilli powder, dhaniya jeera powder, red chilli powder, and turmeric powder. Mix well. Then add the soaked vatana, sprouted mung, 2 cups of hot water (for 2 cups of beans) and salt pressure cook for 3 whistles. Allow it to cool. Your misal is ready!
Top it with corriander leaves and finely chopped onions, lemon and thick (or a crunchy farsaaan). Enjoy with pau, bread or poha.
Perfect as breakfast, or for any meal during the day!
