PLAIN GUJARATI THEPLAS (WITHOUT METHI) Recipe | Snacks Recipe by reluctant_chef |
| INGREDIENTS | Wheat flour
Red chilli powder
Haldi powder
Salt
Oil
| METHOD | In a wide pan, take 4 cups of wheat flour (one cup makes 6 puris). Add one 1 tsp of haldi powder, 1-2 tsp of chilli powder, 1 tsp of salt and 4 tbsp oil. Add water and mix into a semi-soft dough (slightly firmer than chappati dough).
Make rolls and break them into equally-sized small balls (this ensure all the puris will be of the same size) and flatten them between your palms. Then roll each one into a round thepla.
Heat the tava and put the thepla for cooking. When small bubbles form in the surface, gently flip it and coat it with some oil. After some time, flip it again and coat the second side with oil and allow it to cook. Then flip it a couple of time in quick succession to check that it has been cooked. Use a flat ladle to lightly press it where you want it cooked better.Your thepla is ready.
Enjoy hot theplas ...ideally with pickle, curd and potato vegetable!
(Tip: Theplas are so versatile, they are perfect for any meal. They can also be accompanied with most vegetables, especially potato subzi.
Theplas last long and taste great with pickle and dahi, so they are perfect take on picnics or trips. A dry potato vegetable can also be added.
The same dough can also be used to make Gujarati masala puris)
