THE DAILY TUR DAAL
HEALTHY AND SUMPTUOUS! Recipe | Main Course Recipe by reluctant_chef |
| INGREDIENTS | You can make your Tur daal either North Indian style or Gujarati style. Both recipes are provided below.
Ingredients:
Tur (arhar) daal
Tomatoes
Garlic (if making North Indian style)
Ginger (if making North Indian style)
Kokum (if making Gujarati stye)
Gur/jaggery (if making Gujrati style)
Jeera (cumin)
Kadi patta (curry leaves)
Haldi
Chili powder
Salt
Oil | METHOD | Wash and boil daal in a cooker. After one whistle, lower flame and let it cook for another 10 min.
In another pot, heat some oil, and sautee garlic, ginger and tomatoes. (For Gujrati style, where daal is on the sweeter side, skip this step and instead add tomatoes, 5-6 kokum and 2 tbsp of gur depending on the quantity, directly in the daal).
Then add salt, haldi and chilli powder and let the tomatoes cook. Then add boiled daal and water (no need to churn it) and add more salt is required (you will have a better idea of the quantity of daal now) and let it cook for 5 minutes.
Heat oil for tadka in a small pan. Add jeera, kadi patta and hing until it sizzles. Add the tadka to the daal. You daal is ready.
Garnish with corriander leaves and have it hot!
