Playing with Your Baby

Playing with Your Baby

Playing with your baby is important not only for you but also for your baby. A baby builds his very first bonds with you and your partner as your faces are the ones he sees most often. Studies indicate that playing with your baby is very important to his mental development. These activities help your baby's brain to start functioning and begin the thought and memory processes. In fact, experts claim that the first 2 years of playing are crucial to developing a baby's mind.

Let's take a look at some activities to keep both you and your baby entertained!

Hide and Seek

This is a game that comes automatically to all parents! This game during the days immediately after your baby is born can be quite good for him. Studies claim that this makes the baby get comfortable with his parents and also amuses him in the process. So go ahead and play hide and seek!

Playing Music

An early introduction to music can do wonders for your baby. Understanding and appreciating music at an early age is a big indication of intelligence. You can either play a song and sing along or play an instrument for your child. You can even give your child a baby piano or keyboard so that he can play with it for hours together. Remember, babies are fondest of really loud drum kits!

Colourful Toys/Building Blocks

Colourful toys are extremely popular with babies. Not only do they love the colours, this also gives you an opportunity to teach your baby the names of the colours. Building blocks in particular come in a range of colours and you can use the opportunity to build something cool for your baby and well teach him something in the process! Make sure that the blocks and toys do not have small pieces that he could swallow.

Memorize Pictures

This is another activity that can be a lot of fun for your baby and yet help improve his memory. You can either use picture cards or large colourful books to test your baby's memory. But make sure you make it fun too, by rewarding him in between. A baby's patience is very limited, but this game should definitely help him improve it!

Time by Himself

Giving your baby his own space is very important too. Though most babies are likely to cry for attention, let him be alone with his favourite toy whenever possible. Babies tend to think continuously while playing or lying down alone, and this is also important for his overall development.

Baby Talk!

Babies love story telling sessions with funny faces, loud actions and hilarious expressions! These sessions can be a kick-start for your baby's imagination as you belt out one classic fable after another. Make sure you use props and integrate little morals and rules into your stories, so that your baby learns as he listens. For example, you can tell him how the police take away babies who do not eat veggies in a story!

Take him outside frequently

Spending time outside can be very good for your baby. Make sure you take him outside and supervise his playtime at the ground. Seeing other babies and such bustling activity around him can be a good activity for your child. Make sure you take your baby out at least once a day and let him interact with other babies.
Thus, with these activities, you can help your baby discover the world and himself. And these activities could form a lot of great memories to share with your baby when he is all grown up!
