Q: |
Are methi leaves good for the complexion? How can I apply them on my face? Should I make a paste?
|
|
A: |
While methi leaves will not harm the complexion, they have no major benefits per se. Honey or egg white help moisturise the skin, and they are good for dry, older complexions. Cucumber helps lighten the skin, and so does lime. Lime should ideally be mixed with honey before application, as it is too strong otherwise. Egg white helps firm the skin, and makes a good mask. Similary, haldi, curd, malai, besan are all good for the skin.

I have very small pimples, What should I do to improve my skin?
|
|
A: |
Don't touch your face at all, and wash it twice a day with a face wash - more often if you have oily skin. Cleanse, tone and moisturise your face everyday, at least once a day. Avoid eating fried foods, too many chocolates and other heaty products. Steer clear
from soft, fizzy drinks.

You would have to visit a dermatologist, who will be able to prescribe a treatment after examining your
skin. Take care to shelter your skin from the sun.

Q: |
Please suggest me something for acne, blemishes and dandruff.
|
|
A: |
Very often dandruff causes pimples. Wash your hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo twice a week. You could even wash your hair every alternate day or everyday - but then use a mild shampoo for daily wash instead of an anti-dandruff one. Oil your hair once a week, and wash off after an hour. Drink about 10-12 glasses of water in a day. Steer
clear from chocolates, cashewnuts, soft drinks, wafers, non-veg and fried foods. Wind plays havoc with the skin. When travelling in a train, cab, bus or car, don't sit next to the window, or roll it up. Wash your face with a face wash twice a day. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.

My face looks darker then before, especialy on the forehead and around the mouth but overall the skin is dark then before. Is there any solution on what I can do about this?
|
|
A: |
Avoid going out in the sun, and make sure you wear a sunscreen every morning, even if you are indoors (you can wear a low-SPF sunscreen, or a moisturiser with an in-built sunscreen). Drink plenty of water to detox your system. Try going on a fruit fast once a week. Substitute one or both meals with fruit. Use a face scrub once a week. Apply a mixture of lime and honey on your face, and wash off after ten minutes. Do this everyday.

Q: |
My eyebrows are very thin and scanty. One beautician had suggested me to use a vegetable dye. This dye is tattooed on your brow, to superp effect, it is done with a sterile, disposable needle. Although the effect is permanent, a touch-up job once a year, is necessary. Is this treatment effective and if yes, does this have any side effects on skin and is it painful.
|
|
A: |
Tattooing does not really have any side effects, after all people tattoo all parts of their bodies. Brow pencil can be inconvenient, and if you are considering getting them tattooed, there is really no reason not to, as long as you go to a reputed person. The needle
must be sterilised, and the person doing the tattooing should be well experienced - after all, the area is close to the eye, and you don't want to take chances. See some photographs, speak to her clients who have gotten it done. New growth, of course, will be your natural hair colour, and the tattooing will be done on your skin. Yes, tattooing is painful, but then so is waxing, threading etc. Some beauticians numb the area before tattooing. Find out if your beautician numbs the area. The importance of going to a reputed, trustworthy beautician cannot be stressed enough.

I have a 3 year old daughter. Please suggest me how should I improve her complexion and also how should I get rid of the thin hair which she has on her body. I give her a lot of juices and vegetable soups.
|
|
A: |
1. Give her plenty of fruits to eat, and avoid getting her addicted to chips, soft drinks and other junk food. Once in a while is fine, but don't let it become a habit. Apply curds to her face.
2. Apply a besan haldi paste, and scrub it off after it dries and thickens. This would gradually reduce her hair over a period of time.
3. Oil her hair once a week, and give her a massage for around 10 minutes before washing off. Apply egg to her hair as well. If you are non-veg, give her plenty of fish to eat. A diet rich in fish and coconut would be excellent for hair.
4. Give her a body massage with any oil, once a week. Leave on the oil for at least 15 minutes, so it gets soaked in properly, after which she can go in for a bath.
5. Juice/soup... all this is excellent for her, so continue giving it to her.

I have dark circles around my eyes and is gradually spreading towards the sides. I have tried antiblemish cremes but have found no results. Can you suggest me some solution to reduce these circles or how one can hide them.
|
|
A: |
Apply a concealer stick under your eyes, and then apply foundation evenly all over your face. Your dark circles will not be seen. To lighten dark circles, try applying slices of cucumber on them. You could also try using creams especially formulated for removing dark circles, instead of general anti-blemish creams.

A: |
Avoid going out in the sun, and apply a suntan lotion - or a moisturiser or foundation which has SPF protection, every day, even when you are at home. Apply a mixture of cucumber juice and lemon to your face. Wash off after ten minutes. Also, highlights on your hair lighten and brighten the face, so you should consider getting your hair highlighted, or colour it at home. DO NOT concentrate on just looking fairer.
Try and make the most of your other features.

Q: |
I have lots of hair on my upper lips, this increased after my delivery. Please help me.
|
|
A: |
No woman should ever walk around with a hairy upper lip. Threading is the best way to remove hair from the upper lip. With bleaching, you can still see a blonde fuzz, and with waxing, the growth thickens. Plus, waxing pulls at the skin, leading to the early onset
of wrinkles. Get your upper lip threaded at the nearest beauty parlour. Most parlours charge between Rs 5 to Rs 15 for threading the upper lip. In addition, threading is a skill that you can master at home with a little bit of practice, and then you never need be seen with a hairy upper lip again! You could also go in for electrolysis or laser therapy for permanent hair removal, but if you don't go to the right person, you can damage and burn your skin. It's best you stick to THREADING.

How do I remove unwanted facial hair at home?
|
|
A: |
Sabitha, you could try bleaching your face. A small box of bleach is available at all chemists or general stores, and costs anwhere between Rs 20 to Rs 45 approximately. You could alternately try waxing your sideburns with some cold wax and see if that helps, but your hair growth is likely to thicken slightly. Try applying a besan and haldi paste, and scrubbing it off. For removing hair from eyebrows, upper lip and
chin, threading is best.

I am 22-years-old and have a wheatish complexion. I want to get fair. I apply fair and lovely and bleach my face but to no avail. Please give me some make up tips to look fair.
|
|
A: |
Diya try applying a mixture of equal amounts of cucumber juice and lemon to your face everyday. Wash off after ten minutes. Avoid going out in the sun, and apply a sunscreen during the day even if you are indoors. Apply a foundation to match your skin tone, and finish off by applying compact powder so it will stay on longer. Concentrate on achieving a glowing complexion rather than a fair one. Look well groomed. Is your hair wavy? Wavy hair tends to darken a dark complexion, so straighten it out. Get your hair coloured or highlighted professionally. This lightens the face.

Q: |
How can unwanted facial hair permanently be removed at home?
|
|
A: |
There is no way to remove facial hair permanently at home. If there was, people wouldn't be spending thousands of rupees at lazer clinics. To remove hair permanently you will need to go in for a lazer treatment or electrolysis. For a temporary at-home solution you could try bleaching or waxing your face with cold wax.

Ritu, make it a point to wear a sunscreen or foundation with an in-built sunscreen before venturing

Is there any way to reduce bust size? I have a large bust 36E and I weigh 150 pounds, and am 5 feet 3 inches and aged 28.
|
|
A: |
No, there is no way to reduce your bust size. You could try and lose weight overall, in which case your
bust size would reduce slightly, but other than plastic surgery, which I would NOT recommend, there is no way to reduce weight from your bust alone. Wear shirts, V-neck tops and vertical stripes to make your bust look slimmer. Stay away from round necks, t-shirts and horizontal stripes.

Vanitha, first of all you must avoid exposure to the sun. Wear a foundation or make-up base which has a sunscreen. Avoid stepping out in the afternoons when the sun is at its harshest, or if you must, wear a cap. One of the prime causes of pigmentation is sun
exposure. Get rid of whiteheads by scrubbing your skin once a week with a face scrub. cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin twice a day.

The best way to store lipsticks and nail paints would be to keep them in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you could store them in a plastic packet, in a cool, dry place. However, you shouldn't store them for too long as they expire after a while, and can damage your skin or nails.

I have a brown spot on my face which may be a freckle. Please suggest a home remedy. I have oily skin with pimples and marks. My face looks dull. I have facial hair on my upper lip and chin. Would you suggest bleaching, threading or waxing?
|
|
A: |
Bleach is a strong chemical and it can dry out your skin, so you should bleach at the most once a fortnight and use a moisturiser regularly. Since you have oily skin, bleaching would not cause too much harm. However, threading is a better option, so instead try threading your upper lip and chin.
A dermatologist would be able to give you better advice after seeing your skin and determining if the brown spot is indeed a freckle. The only way to avoid
getting freckles is to shield your skin from the sun. Apply a mixture of lime juice and honey to your face, and wash off after ten minutes.
For pimples, wash your face with a face wash for oily skin at least twice a day, or cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin twice a day. Use a light
moisturiser. Avoid fried foods and soft drinks, and drink at least 10 glasses of water everyday.

A lot of people have extremly sensitive skin. Here are a few tips:
1. Don't wear fake jewellery. If you wear a fake necklace or earrings, take them out as soon as you are back home.
2. Apply unscented creams and moisturisers.
3. When wearing perfume, avoid spraying it around your neck. Spray it on your clothes.
4. Avoid wearing synthetic fabrics. These further irritate the skin.
5. Dab yourself with a medicated powder every morning, after bathing.

I am 32, with a year old daughter. My skin skin was clear before giving birth. Now I have black spots on my face which increase daily. Are these moles? Any remedy?
|
|
A: |
Women suffer everything from acne and rashes to broken capillaries during pregnancy. Additional conditions include melasma (brown spots - which is what you are probably encountering), seborrhea (red itchy patches around nose and scalp area) and rosacea (redness to the cheek areas) amongst others. You should apply a moisturiser and an antibiotic cream. It is very important to keep your skin moisturised during pregancy and after. Stay out of the sun as far as possible. This condition should go away in time.

Q: |
I have got a brown spot near my eye. Any remedy? Are hair removing machines safe for removing hair from arms & legs? Will they increase hair growth?
|
|
A: |
Epilators like Silk Epil from Braun remove hair from the root, and so they are similar to waxing, as waxing also removes hair from the root. However, you may get more in-growths if you use these machines, so you should scrub your body with a pumice stone while bathing to counter this problem. You need to give more details about the brown spot. Is it a freckle or is it a mole? How big is the spot? If it is a mole, you should visit a dermatologist.

I have an oily skin and get lot of pimples which leave the marks on my face. Its looks really bad. Can you please suggest me any creams and face pack which can improve the color of my skin and can reduce the pimple marks?
|
|
A: |
Wash your face twice a day with Clean and Clear face wash. Throughout the day keep splashing water on your face and wipe dry with a tissue or small towel, to remove the excess oil. Avoid fried foods and soft drinks. Sometimes, dandruff also causes pimples so if you have dandruff, wash your hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo. Keep your hair tied up, at least when you are at home, so your hair doesn't touch the skin and cause further irritation. As far as possible, don't touch your face. Also, when you are in the car, sit with the windows rolled up. Wind can irritate the skin.

I am fair. But my skin is dry and now is turning worst. It is becomed dull and full of freckles. So please advice something to restore my normal preety skin?

As your skin is dry, apply a light moisturiser in the morning and leave it on throughout the day. Also, make sure you apply a heavier moisturiser during the night. Pay special attention to the areas around your eyes and mouth.
Freckles are usually due to the sun, so avoid venturing out during 12 to 3, when the sun is at it's brightest. If you must, wear a cap, and apply suntan lotion.
Wash your face with a face scrub twice a week to scrub off dead skin cells and freshen up your skin.

A: |
If you have oily skin, stay away from butter and greasy moisturisers. Cleanse and tone your skin twice a day, or wash your face with a face wash. Apply cucumber juice mixed with a little lemon juice twice a day. If you ever burst a zit, squeeze about 10 drops of lemon on a cotton swab, and apply it to the area for about 10 minutes. You could try applying a mixture of equal amounts of lemon and honey. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash
off. Cucumber juice is also good for the skin. However, I would advise you to let her be. She is too young, and you should not be worrying about fairness. While our generation is still slightly partial to fair
skin, things are definitely changing, and by the time your daughter grows up fair skin would no longer be considered a sign of beauty. Most models are dark complexioned. Don't worry about it.

I am 25 years female staying in US.I am really worried about this that which is the good and best way of hair removing in underarms and bikini parts. Is waxing is ok for both or which products should I use, so that I retain my natural colour of my skin.
|
|
A: |
Waxing is a perfectly safe and effective method of hair removal. Visit your parlour and ask them to remove hair from your underarms and bikini line. Hair removal creams are less painful, but as they contain chemicals to destroy the hair, they could cause some damage/dryness to your skin in the long run.

Apply a mixture of lemon, glycerine and malai to your lips every night, before turning in. Leave it on

Instead of chapstick try applying a lip balm or Vaseline. Alternatively, you could apply cold cream on your lips at night, before going to sleep.
