The article was good and interesting.i do agree with her point of view but also the party which was been organised out also has lot of love and affection as each and everthing was so well planned and well looked after to see that kids enjoy and as it was ordered catered the parent could pay more attention towards other stuff love doesnt seem to be decreased. Each one has thier own way of expressing and time has also changed a lot.

i think some people are going real hard on our author. Its her point of view and she has the right to remember the good old days. Yes, the birthday party culture (organised & catered) is surely a recent phenomena, gripping most parents and families. they are convenient for some, while envious for others. Its upto the parents and their child to decide on the party celebrations. Getting the child involved is of utmost importance and yes kids want to have fun which is what matters.

I Tottally agree with UMA ......as she mentions about giving our child the lesson of life and the importance of planning. The birthday parties and any other special day of our lives we should try and accomplish by giveing the personal touch.

nice article. but trends r changing nowadays and u cannot say that just because the father did not decorate the hall with streamers or the mother did not cook the goodies herself, it is not a homely party. everyone wants to have a good time, rather than slogging too much. of course however lavish any party is, parents whould make it a point to give a personal touch to the party by ensuring all the kids r having a good time. and r participating too. this way the child also remembers and understands the meaning of organising as well as the value for money.

Instead of thinking that some people are just 'wasting' their money, why not think of how many people are earning their livelihood. For example, catering service is run by real PEOPLE with families. These people are doing their JOB by providing service to people who can afford to pay others to do their job. If one is blessed with enough money then why complain how one spends his/her money? I don't understand why some people even occupy with things that shouldn't concern them. Just relax and enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs. If those lavish parties bother you, then don't take your child to such parties in the future. Simple :)

I agree with Pritha. In fact, when we were growing up also there were some children who threw lavish parties at fancy restaurants, while other kids would just call everyone home. the grapes were sour then too! so really, nothing has changed.

Haha! Sounds to me like a case of sour grapes! Some poeple are against everything others do, that is progressive or what they view to be needlessly expensive! What's wrong in getting someone else to organise your child's birthday??
