This is for all the comments about it's ok to be a drunk, pot head,etc. I watched my sister start drinking when she was 10...she ended up almost getting raped because she was so drunk she could hardly move...I helped her quit drinking...4 months after her last drink she started smoking pot...it's an herb she used to say...I could never get it though her thick skull that pot may be just an herb, but if used to often and not for the right medical condition it is very bad for you...it kills your brain cells...her argument was "brain cells grow back"...true but the knowledge in those brain cells don't....it has to be reprogrammed...she was very intelligent... Hi I am 18 years old, and i have been on drugs for about five months now. I grew up a very religious, sheltered life. I was a nieve, innocent lil sweetheart, focused on doing positive with my life. People adored me. My parents seperated when i was 15, my mom moved away and got remarried, followed by my father, whom i live with. I stayed strong through it all. I love both of my parents, and stepparents dearly. Iv moved twice within the last three years. This is what led to my drug addiction; I was dating this guy for awhile, and i really loved him. We were like best friends, and did everything together eventually we broke up, and I felt I lost everything, and that everyone I cared for eventually hurt me. I had been a virgin, and my beautiful dream was to wait until marriage, but one drunken night, i went to my ex's house and we went to far... I lost trust in people. we ended on very bad terms. I turned to drugs, and alcohol to numb my pain. I couldn't focus on school, and I had always been considered very intelligent. The spark that everyone loved in me slowly started to disinegrate. I stopped caring about everything that mattered to me, and constantly thought about my next high. My friends started doing it, and even though it bothered me, i couldnt stop them. Like me, they stopped caring. I started slacking at my job, made errors I usually didnt make, and became irritated, and tired. I stopped saying my prayers, and lost my closness with the good lord. Everyone was concerned about me. People have always considered me as a beautiful girl, sometimes people will just stop me at the mall or a restaruant and tell me that I am. I was accepted at a modeling comp. once, but I'v never thought i was better than anyone. I always liked to dress up, go shopping, and tanning, but after drugs, I looked at myself one night, and was appalled at the dark circles under my eyes, and how sad I looked. I'm a total neat freak, but by looking at my bedrtoom at this moment, you wouldnt be able to tell. I thought drugs were my escape, but the were the enemy. Now I'm tangled in a web. And I'v become so careless i dont know how to get away. So please take advice from my experience, drugs will rob you of everything. When I first came here, I only used weed and alcohol... but then I met a boy and he got me in trouble with the law and after that point they had me on house arrest for 5 months, the whole summer included. When I would be home alone at my house all day long drugs came to me and people would bring them to me. After awhile I was using practically everything. Popping pills, extacy, meth, coke, weed, shrooms, alcohol... everything except crack, heroine, and acid. All I can say about drugs is they are mostly used by people who feel they haven't experienced enough out of life, mostly the people who use would have to be those who want to live in the fast life and want to experience life to the fullest. I'm not saying that drugs are a good thing to do, if anything they are the worst thing to come into your life and not only do they affect your emotional, physical, and social well-being... they are anything but the release you are looking for. But sites like this that tell teenagers to not use drugs and that if they use them they are stupid doesn't work. No matter what anyone or any law says... there will always be drug users. I feel if you don't like those who use drugs, just don't associate yourself with those types of people. But it is not anyones place to judge. And if you do want to help, either put how you feel about it in a nice way.. or share your bad experiences. Before drugs, I was a happy, beautiful girl. I was in cheerleading and dance... after that trouble I got myself into, I dropped those sports, I just dropped out of school *trying to get into a choice school* and lost many friends. All my friends use drugs and I keep what I do secret. Drugs do make you a completely different person than you really are, even if you don't notice it. Even though I am still beautiful and I can cover my problems very well... I still have no personal money and when I do get money, they go straight to my drugs. I used to have a great relationship with my mother and now we fight every day and she despises me just as much as I despise her. Sometimes.... I wish I could go back in time. But all I can say about this.. is I still have no regrets. From drugs, I have learned alot of things. I'm just a junkie, I've never shot up and never will. I'm not addicted to the drugs, I'm addicted to the escape. I do keep my life in order and don't let one drug overcome another and get myself addicted. I spread them apart and really use them wisely. Also, I've learned alot about people from using drugs. They really create a different self. I've seen so many great people change into horrible people. People who used to help others now only watch out for themselves and people become very selfish and cold-hearted. But really...It's life.And there's nothing that this site, or any other site can do about it. Everywhere around you there are drugs.... and everywhere you go there will be at least one in a 15-foot radius of where ever you walk. Hell, there could be some at your neighbors. Im 14 yrs old and a freshman in highschool-I recently quit smokin cigarette's...but i still pop pills, smoke weed, drink alcohol,and ive smoked cocaine with weed (premo), i also steel from the mall.. a few weekends ago my friends got arrested for under age drinkin.. i left 30 minutes b4 the cops got there. My rents r strict so when i get out n i do bad like that. Its not so bad if u do it once in awhile but when i look back on that night my friend should of been dead when he blew his breath-a-lizer test with a .299 the machine then turned off because it was so damn high. and the bad thing is i drank about the same amount.. now i have depression and i yell and threaten to runaway my rents think i need counselin and maybe put me in a foster home.. i have alot of things positive in my life.. all my gurls and my b/f who loves me so much and is always there for me then i have volleyball tennis and softball..along with pitching for sball.. i dont want to ever be known as a pothead crackhead pill popper alcoholic..none of that i need in my life but it does ruin ur life so u may think that by not doin drugs a goody-goody person but really ur mature and more responsible and it just shows u want a good life and control of it to!

i'm 14 years old, and in the eigthth grade my thoughts on drugs are they are not cool! how do i know? i watch my parents recover from drugs there is no way you can be careful or make sure you know what your taking....all is bad for you and you can't hide behind your problems this makes it worst when you sober up they are worse than before...and even greater...then it leads to depression....and other things......i have seen it and i choose to learn from it and not to repeat the same process that my parents did......maybe i can help teens who think this is cool change there thoughts on drugs....my mom is now recovered and gave her life to god.....and is freely talking on the matter to me she knew i knew what was going on the whole time ....she stated out with smoking dope...and lead to many other things......thank god for deliverence.....know god has given me a perfect family.....

First off, I have not read the article but, I am a freshmen of high school and I can say that drugs amoung teens are extremely bad. Drugs are not something that should be taken lightly. I think that something should be mentioned on this site about how to parent a pregnant teen or a teen who has recently been raped. Also might want to try interviewing teens to get first hand thoughts of why a teenager experiments with the things that they do.
