my baby has NEVER CRIED to sleep. and im proud of myself and my training for that. i always picked him up before he is going to cry, ie; when he is preparing to whine and first do shhhhhh to make him stop the cry. then look at all possiblities like diaper wetness, diaper rash, hunger by putting finger in his mouth, any bites, if the stomach is hard to indicate gas or cholic, if nothing visible then obviously, sleep. then i wud put him on his bed and place two bolseters/pillows next to him and his favourite stuffed toy or handkerchief. then say goodnight with a smile and switch off the lights. he wud cuddle the bolsters and kiss the toy/handkerchief to sleep. he still does that at 9 months now.
