i agree that investing in costly furn is not good idea. invest in simple low cost sofa and keep on changing the sofa cover once in 15 days and have a new sofa each time.

Fabric curtains can be replaced by curtains made from cane. They block sunlight though but are very cool during summers and gives the rooma ethnic look.
