40 years ago my jaw began clicking after a wisdom tooth was removed. I didn't seek medical attention and lived with the clicking when eating. Over the years my face has been twisted off centre and my teeth have grown in irregular positions to accommodate the skewed jaw, but I didn't associated this with the dental treatment. Last week my jaw became dislocated for the first time when having dental treatment, it was frightening not being able to close my gaping mouth. An experienced dentist pushed by jaw back in place. For the first time in years my jaw stopped clicking and my face was realigned! This week my jaw was dislocated again at the dentists and the same dentist relocated it eventually after three attempts. Now my own dentist is worried to continue dental treatment on me. This article and other comments has been reassuring and I will try the exercises, as there's more work to be done on my teeth.

I went to an Oral Maxilfacial Surgeon, and he said i had to go to pain management first, this was 2 years ago. I was sick of being a guinea pig, so I stopped going. They said they were going to put Botox in my muscle. I need to go back my jaw has gotten worse. I am in pain daily. Eating, yawning, laughing, any movement messes with my jaw. It helps to know I am not the only one.

The article is great. I have dislocated my jaw 3 times in the last six months (twice in 1 month), and relocated it myself on all occasions. It is a frightening experience. I was wondering is there any way to cure this problem completely, without any surgery? Thanks.

I am 25 and for the last 5 years i suffer from jaw dislocation.5 years! I can't eat normally and I can only sleep on my back... It's awful... very frigtening. The causes are psycological... I have stress and during the sleep i clang my teeth. I also do it during the day... I can;t control it. I I don't know anyone with similar problem in my age and I feel very alone...I am seized with panic... if anyone has anythin similar I would like him/her to share his/her experience with me... Thank you.

My daughter (now 3) suffers from regular jaw dislocation since she was 2. Sometimes 3 -4 times a week, lately less frequenly. I learned how to re-locate it in a rural hospital in Australia while on a holiday. But still do not kwow why it happens so often.
