I developed a bump the size of an egg near my ankle. It didn't hurt and I didn't bump myself.It has since turned blue and has decreased to the size of an acorn. Has been there for 9 days. Now I feel some pain in it upon standing. Medical assistant says it is a varicose vein that has ruptured but I don't think it is. Do you have any suggestions?

A vein ruptured externally on the inside of my right leg, just above the ankle. I applied pressure until it stopped bleeding. It was actually squirting blood for approximately 15 inches out of an opening about the size of a large pinhead. I have kept a pressure bandage on it with no medication and a non-stick thick pad. I have Polyneuropathy of the legs and it is just starting in the hands/arms. I am not diabetic. Any suggestions concerning the rupture treatment? Thanks for you comments. KJG

I think if you get a clot in the vericose vein, you SHOULD see a doctor right away. These clots potentially can dislodge and travel to your lung or worse....can be damaging or potentially fatal. My husband had surgery on his ankle and 7 weeks later had a small blood clot go to his lung....was in the hospital for a week. Don't take the chance.
