Saifee's Field Trip to Indiaparenting Office
 

The kids had a great time during their field trip to the office. Here are a list of things which they did at their visit to the Indiaparenting Office.
 

Introduction to Office

  • They were given a short introduction about the office and given an office tour.
  • In the conference room they were introduced to the concept of meetings and presentations.
  • Were shown basic things like revolving office chairs for ease of discussions and movement. 
  • Were also shown the different types of office stationery - pens, marker pens, stapler, calculator, files and folders, writing pads, rubber stamp and ink pad, visiting cards, binder clips, u-clips, hole punch and white-out.
  • Children were also taken up a staircase to the loft which housed excess computer equipment, furniture, etc.
  • They were then divided into 3 groups to rotate through the stations for the different activities.


Station 1: Children’s Activity: Using the Office Equipment

  • They were shown how the fax machine works by faxing a letter (a quick alternative to mailing). 
  • This was followed by an explanation on computers – monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU.
  • One of Shyamoli’s photograph’s was scanned on the scanner to show them how photographs can be transferred on the computer (to be used for the next activity).
  • Children were later allowed to operate computers on their own; they would find the letters of their name on the keyboard, select the font size and colours and take printouts.


Station 2: Children’s Activity – Modifying an actual picture in Photoshop

  • Children were made to sit on the computers and shown how some basic images are drawn and colored.
  • The file with Shyamoli’s picture that was just scanned was opened in a software package called Photoshop.
  • This was then modified using different child’s suggestions.
  • For example – made her dress red, her eyes yellow, her hair green, her teeth black… 
  • Added some pink stars, white spots, and an orange halo, and lo and behold, it wasn’t Shyamoli anymore! 


Station 3: Children’s Activity – Creating a Multimedia Greeting Card

  • A photograph of each child was taken on the Digital Camera.
  • Pictures from the digital camera were shown to the children and then loaded on the computer.
  • Each child was asked to recite their favourite nursery rhyme to introduce them to computer sound recording.
  • They were also asked to record their names (one-line) for their electronic greeting card (ecard).
  • Finally, a completely personalised multimedia card was created for each child, with his/her picture and voice against an animated background.


Party Time 

  • Sang happy birthday song and cut a Cinderella birthday cake for Shyamoli.
  • Entertained the children with a narration of the Cinderella story.


Bye-Bye 

  • Children were shown their multi-media card with audio.
  • They got a chance to see and hear not only themselves but also their friends.
  • These ecards, along with the one-line introductions (not rhymes since they are too heavy to download), have now been put on the Internet (to be shared with family and friends, and for the whole world to see!).
  • The day ended with each child being given an IndiaParenting certificate as a memento of their First Office Field Trip.
