I feel sad that this is the condition of so many of us Indians - living in nucler families either in India or abroad. For those you are already going through this, my good wishes to train your kids. But for those who are yet to begin (expecting their babies / have infants), don't delay. Search the web for Elimination Communication or Natural Infant Hygiene. I am reading a book 'Diaper Free' by Ingrid Bauer who quotes India in so many of her examples. Get help from elders, our parents / in-laws are all experienced to train us within no time! Start early, good for your baby and for you!

Lovely Article.... Really, I was checking again and again to check if I have written this in my sleep.... I am going through this right now with my 30 months daughter. She tells me when she wants to Su su... some days in a month she also does potty using the potty seat.... she tells also when she has to do potty but does not want to do it on the potty seat.... I am struggling through this phase, sweating, frowning but your article just reassured that its natural... aj

Awesome article. I felt as if it was me talking about my own experience. Whenever I talk about this issue to my friends, they always say...have you ever seen an adult with a diaper? so chill your daughter will also get potty trained. Till then suppose we just wait and pray :)Hang on till then Mommies

My son is 3 yr. old. He is potty trained from the sense that he always tells me whenever he has to go. But he does not sit on the toilet seat. Till he was 2-1/2 we used to hold him like a small baby over toilet seat and then wash him. Now he has started sitting in the Indian style. But he is still not ready to sit on the western style seat. I have purchased a small seat cover for kids which goes over the normal seat cover and I try to convince him that he will not fall and mama will be holding him, but still that does not help. Please does any one have a clue what I can do.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE THIS LETTER IT WILL HELP MANY OF US. I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD SON AND IT TOOK ME UNTILL HE WAS 3YEARS AND 6MONTHS TO POTTY TRAIN....WELL MY YOUNGER SISTER (16) TO DO IT. I THINK THEY DO IT TO BE DEFIANT TO US AS MOTHERS OR MAYBE THEY JUST GET A KICK OUT OF SEEING US SCROUNGE ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR. I ALSO HAVE A 1 YEAR OLD AND SHE SAYS "CACCA" BUT ONLY AFTER THE FACT. AT LEAST SHES TRYING. I THINK SHE MAY BE EASIER. I ALSO NOTICED GIRLS ARE MUCH EASIER THAN BOYS. BUT WHAT EVER THE REASON THEY DONT FOLLOW "OUR" SCHEDULE ON POTTY TRAINING MAY BE AT LEAST SOME OF US MAY ALSO FINDING A WAY TO BOND AND SPEND TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN EVEN IF IT MEANS SITTING IN THE BATHROOM ON THE FLOOR. ITS A MEMORY THAT NEITHER OF YOU WILL NEVER FORGET.

i have a son and a daughter, they are 5 + 2. with my daughter i just put pants on under her nappy so she got the feeling of wee against her botty.my son - just trained, this didn't work so here i have a great tip. put a towel in bottom of the potty with a patch of blue food colouring on and tell him he is magic , and when he goes wee wee in the potty he can make it go green.this works so well!when in the car i found a really good technique was to put an open nappy under there bare botty and make it a "game" to go for a wee when i said(every hour or so)this way they don't lose the control and get lazy.hope these are helpful.tell me if you find these are good tips, they worked with my children!.

Hi, I laughed and laughed while reading the article, the writer has brought forth the anxiety of a mother so well with the humour included. I, myself, am a mother of two year old twins and I have been trying to potty train them for the last 8 mths, without any success. Tried everything, can anyone give me tips on how to.

Potty training is very easy; as long as your kid is ready physically, rationaly and and emotionaly. Your child will let you know, just follow his/her cues.
