Well-developed legs are usually found on long-distance runners. They are famous for them! But not so much with their upper body. Believe it or not, having a symmetrical and balanced body is something that can be beneficial for you overall. Most runners try to avoid carrying extra weight when they exercise. Most of the time, it all comes down to personal preference. The more you build up, the less likely you will have overuse injuries because your upper body is in shape. Simple body weight exercises will probably do if you don't want to add mass to your torso. The benefit is also found in the variety in your exercises that you will experience. You will be more resistant to injury, and your body will be stronger, once you start exercising in this way. NFL Authentic Jerseys Well-developed legs are usually found on long-distance runners. hi i have bow legs too. not severe but noticible. i hated my legs and envied other peoples straight and long legs. but now im trying hard to thank God for the legs that he has given me. dont you think he would be sad about some of the comments posted on this website. God wants you to be happy about the way he made you but many here seem unhappy. Remember it doesnt matter what others think of you... what God thinks of you is what matters and I know that he thinks that everyone with bow legs are beautiful. He even said, "you are fearfully and wonderfully made". that goes to everybody. I know life can get hard with bowlegs or other leg problems but lets all try to thank God for the legs he has given us. God Bless Everyone!!! :)

hello i am 54 years old and since about 12 years old i realised i was bowlegged ,my legs look awful andit has done nothing but cause all sorts of personal problems for me just like other people on here, also i have some arthritis in my knees now and to make things worse my doctor refuses to even look at my legs ,also my knees dont look very nice they are very boney in places not nice and elegant like a normal knee,if they just didnt look so horrible things would not be so bad, my wife has never mentioned anything about my legs ever and my two kids appear to have normal legs, why did this happen to me?

I have bowed legs, and im searching for a way to stretch to straighten them... I'm a cheerleader, and a flyer, and it was embarrassing because we were learning to do this new stunt, and my coach kept telling me to attach my legs, and i was doing the best i can, but my knees would not touch, so later, she finally realized my problem and was like "oh.. i understand you cant attach your legs, but just attach your feet, okay?" -_-;; pleeaseee i hope there's a way to straighten my legs by stretching...

you can purchase a Pilates ring and use that by squeezing it between your legs. There are various exercises you can do with it that can help. Perhaps you can find Pilates on the internet and see it being used. The main thing is that you must strengthen the muscles on the inner thighs because that is the imbalance causing the problems in your ankles and knees. Think of exercises to strengthen that area. I hope this information helps you.

Hi everyone...its really good to know Im not the only one with this problem. I have bowed legs and my dad always says I have "footballer's legs". I recently started tying up my legs just below the knee to see if it works, after reading everyone's comments. But even if it doesnt..Ive decided Im going to start wearing shorter clothes and skirts and shorts. Because I cant let the remaining 80 per cent of the world or whatever with straight legs dictate what I DO!!! ps Im Nigerian but live in England but I totally feel for the Nigerian girl above(anny) nigerians are soooo mean about bow legs even people who are meant to be your friends.

I don't see the point in claiming that there's nothing wrong with being bow-legged. Bowed legs are an unnatural deformation with serious consequence on the body. Being bow-legged means that your naturak skeletal axis is out of line. This has serious repercussions in the health of your feet, knees, hips, spine, neck and even teeth. Bow-legged people will most likely suffer from arthritis, arthrosis and back pain. They might develop flat feet, splins and ankles pain. They might develop bad posture, hunched back, migraine and even teeth misalignment. A posturologist might explain better than me why a deformation in leg alignment can have such drastic effects on every body part. I have bowed legs too and I'm finding for a solution. Can you help?

Straight Legger, Could you give me more info on that? How tightly and with what material did you wrap it with? I was born with bow legs. Both my parents have them, so I think it's just genetic. I've always had pain in my knees, but never knew why. I'm finally thinking that maybe it's because of my bow legs. They are not as severely bowed as some, but when my ankles are together, my knees do not touch, and the bone on the side of my knees sticks out alot. My mom says my legs are fine, but they make me feel very self-conscious, and I wonder if my knee pains are related to it. Anybody else with similar stories?

I am bow legged man and i realized it when i was 15 or so. Now I am 20 years old. I had some big pains on my knees when i was growing up, it was like when i was 13-14, then the pain was gone because i stopped doing sports for a couple of months. Except those a couple of months, ive been doing sports since i was 8 years old. I grew up playing soccer and at 14 i started to play basketball and streetball. Im also in my college basketball team and very athletic player. Apart from that I work out for the last 4 years, and have a body of most of the people envy. Im the fastest player in my college basketball team. Not so many people are aware of the bow legs of mine, and i got some personal trainer friends who are aware of my bow legs and they think that i run faster than many people and am athletic because of the fact that I have bow legs. They think it provides me the chance to accelerate faster or to change my direction easier. So try to look at this situation more optimistic, its not all bad. Start doing something good for yourself instead of complaining in during your lives. When I train so hard, I still feel some pain on my knees so I dont force my knees to lift too much weight. By the way the distance between my legs is like 5 or 6 cm, that is 2 inches.

AND IF KATE MOSS AND ME CAN ROCK MINI SKIRTS AND GET TOLD WE HAVE GREAT LEGS - WHY CAN'T YOU? DON'T YOU THINK K. MOSS LOOKS GREAT? HER SIGNATURE STRUT AND GAIT ARE COOL, AND THAT'S THANKS TO THOSE LEGS. JUST MAKE SURE YOUR LEGS ARE SLIM AND TANNED AND DON'T STAND WITH YOUR LEGS TOGETHER. I PERSONALLY LIKE TO WEAR SANDALS, HEELS, FLIP FLOPS AND ANKLE BOOTS AS THEY ACCENTUATE MY CALF AND INNER THIGH. FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH I KNOW SOMEONE WHO CORRECTED HER BOW LEGS ALMOST COMPLETELY THOUGH YOGA: VINYASA, 3 TIMES A WEEK FOR 2.5 YEARS. XXX

Hi Whit, my daughter also plays soccer and at age 13 started to have shin splints. She was diagnosed first with flat feet and later on one of her PTs noticed her knock-knees and bow legs. This season she had a stress fracture in tibia. She gets injured a lot (ankle sprains). She still would like to play soccer but getting tired of being on the bench due to injuries. Hope this helps.

Upon reading all the entries in this forum, I am deeply saddened. There is nothing wrong with being bow-legged. We all come in different shapes and sizes. Some people are knock-kneed, some have big noses, some have cleft-lips - we are all made unique and beautiful. Yes you heard it right. All of you here, no matter what your complaint, the teasing, etc., you must remember that you are beautiful. God created you this way, are you saying he accidentally made some part of you differently? No, he did his homework alright. You are his design and perfect, in his eyes, in mine and in the eyes of all those who are non-superficial and really living this life, not a lie. Aren't these the people who matter anyway. I'm bow-leggedly too, and I have had my share of unhappiness growing up - especially when I always saw my elder sis wearing ultra mini skirts, etc. And I've had friends point out too, that my knees don't touch. But so what. Those who disturb you or stare are not evil - always remember that. They are just being human and conforming to the society we live in, sometimes superficial, sometimes immature, but most of all, they are just producing judgements based on the kind of image the media and magazines portray of "perfect legs". Just to let u know, nobody has perfect legs - maybe God does. And for all your know, the actual definition of "perfect legs" may not even be what we perceive as "perfect legs" today. Whenever you look at other girls who seem "perfect", be assured that you're so wrong. I used to envy my best friend in secondary school, she was "beautiful" and popular. But one day when she confided in me openly, she broke down - she had so many issues..family problems, paranoia, deep fear. Nobody is as perfect as they look, we all have sorrows in us , whether physical or emotional. Please girls/women/boys/men, learn to love yourself and what you were blessed with. If there's one disease that's destroying this world today, it is self-hatred. Be kind to yourself. Stop telling yourself there's something wrong with you when there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Think of those without legs, without hands, without limbs - you are more fortunate than them because you have all these. But at the same time, don't for one moment think that they are not beautiful or perfect, because they ARE too. They, like you and me and everyone you see on the streets, were molded in God's loving hands and created for a purpose. Focus on perfecting yourself spiritually, on being happy. Live a healthy life. Do yoga. Start doing exercises which are recommended for your body type, don't be shy to ask a doctor what sort of exercise he recommends. If you are afraid you will get athritis or worsen your athritis because of your leg structure, do stretches and the bicycle in the gym. Stop complaining. We all have to do things differently. We're all made differently - make the best of life. Live creatively, wear beautiful long skirts, or even short skirts if you feel like it. If people stare, remember that it cannot affect you inside when you are at one with yourself and inside, you truly love yourself. If you do not feel ready for unwanted attention, then don't wear short skirts just for the sake of it or to prove a point. Just to let you know, People like to stare, even at those whom we think are "perfect" so stop harping on this. Remember that our existence here is only for awhile, one day we're here, tommorow we're gone. Do we want to just live our entire life pointing out how "life isn't fair" or how we want this or that? The human person will never stop wanting. Even if u had straight legs, for example, or nice hair and a good complexion, you'll still wish you wanted more. The trick to being happy is simple - accept yourself completely and live in the present moment. Stop worrying about the past, don't try to live in the future - focus on now. You were once a little baby, with tiny fingers and toes and so innocent. If you saw a baby today, you would hold the baby with so much care and love. You will wonder at her beauty. Remember that you were once a baby too, stop treating yourself so harshly with negative thoughts and brooding. Love yourself. You're bow-legged, so WHAT? You are beautiful. BEAUTIFUL.

The hard painful truth about severe bow legged people like me is that most of us are too damn scared to correct this problem through surgery : 1.method : break tibia fix curve and fixate wit external fixator (ILIZAROV) 2.method 2 : break tibia fix curve and fixate with internal fixator. both methods are very painful but are very successful and give bow leged people a second chance to an healthy painless life ... iam now 33 years old and considering to correct my crappy bowed legs...wish u all health and painless life...

A good way to hide bow legs or to make them look straighter is to wear bell-bottom or boot-cut jeans and wear stiff-leather, tall boots which don't "hug" around the ankles. There are tall boots for women with high heels as well which will further conceal bow legs by adding height! Cowboy boots under boot-cut jeans is an excellent choice for men.

Also wanted to add that I want the surgery not only because I walk funny and made fun of but whenever I run for an hour or two, the outer part of my calves hurt like hell for hours. I guess the muscles there get overworked due to the bowing of the legs inward and absorb all the pounding. Today is 7/28/08 1:27PM ET USA

As you can tell by my pseudonym that I HATE being bowlegged. I never knew what "bow legged" meant until I was 13 when people would giggle and whisper that I was. Then I got really self conscious just walking because people would giggle and make fun of the way I walked. Whenever I go out, I usually avoid walking but rather run because people make fun of the way I walk. It's like every step I take I try to walk "normal" but I just stand out like a sore thumb I guess. I've been looking in to surgery for years but I've just never been able to afford it. But to those who can, there's a relatively new surgery called "Osteotomy Wedge Implantation" (google it) where a wedge is inserted in your tibia bone to straighted it out. I don't know the cost but it looks really promising and less invasive and faster recovery than others. GL my fellow bow legged friends.....

Hello everyone! I am happy to find such a supportive environment here. I am 23 years old and have bowed legs. It has contributed to me feeling very insecure and like many of the rest of you - I have never worn shorts or skirts/dresses. But I am ready for a change. And slowly I will start wearing clothes that do expose my legs and I refuse to let anyone say anything to make me feel bad about my legs. To be honest - I don't think anyone will say anything, it's going to be more important what my inner voice says that determines how I make this transition. I hope some of you will join me and start showing your legs! Feel proud to be who you are and love yourselves. Together we can do it:)

May 13, 2008 Hi everyone after reading your articles, I was so pleased, that I'm not the only one with the problems of being bowlegged. I'm 52 years old. I've been bowlegged all of my life, I wore braces on my legs no help. I've been teased, laughed at, disowned by family member as an outcast, didn't have too many friends, sayings: that I walked like a cowboy, or you can drive train, truck or a even a car through as my legs being so bow. I've cried so many times as a kid. Out of three sisters I was the only one came out with bowleggs. I'm flat-footed. Right now I'm having problems with my feet. My legs hurt when I walk faster or running. I used to wear pants and shorts in my younger days. Now I only wear long dresses or skirts to hide my legs. I was not given a lot of Vitamin D as a kid. Twenty-something years ago when I was married. I used to take cod liver oil, it straightens my legs a little if I just continue to take my legs probably would have been corrected. But I was told you can take only when you are younger since I'm older they says its too late. You do not know how bless you are until you see something else, I noticed this woman in a wheelchair, she's didnot have any legs. May God Bless you all He loves us no matter what. Thank you for this website, It such an encoouragement for me. Oh by the way thanks for the info about Limb lengthening and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City somewhere I will check it out.

I want to comment on some of the inquiries on this site. I am 35 and have bowed legs. Like many of the submissions here, I don't wear shorts and wear loose fitting jeans as much as I can. Personally i am not pleased with my bowed legs. But after reading many of the submissions, I am not being grateful of how God has made me. He makes no mistakes. We are fearfully and wonderfully made(each one of us). That's what makes us unique. We all have something different to offer in this world. So, i am dealing with many insecurities that will eventually turn into 'unlimited power' that's trapped inside of each one of us. thanks for all the encouragement like from "bowedlegcharlie" and "tired of my legs"

I always thought bow-legged people were attractive. I always wanted to have bow-legs because I think women look nice with bow-legs and they always seem to have the cute shapes with the small waists. Men to me especially look good with bow-legs in their jeans. I never knew people experienced problems because of being bow-legged. I am compassionate to all of you that have problems and I will keep you and your children lifted up in prayer. God Bless

i am 19 years old and ive noticed ever since i've had repeated injuries to my right knee during my high school soccer career, it has become bowlegged. i am sure that this is preventing me from fully recovering and being safe from injury again. I play with a brace and i know I'm lucky to be able to do this, but i wish i could play without it and not have to worry.. is there any surgery/ anything i can do to correct this? how long would it take to recover? is it painful? would i be able to play soccer again if i went through with surgery?

Howdy partner’s, I am a optimism,60 yr old male who was born with flat feet and bowlegged. My bowleggs helped me stay on bucking bulls and bucking bronc during my rodeo days. The flat feet helped me stalk the elusive game out in the woods by walking on my toes, then resting all my weight on my 2 flat feet at interval's. So no problem here, I am just an old bowlegged Cowboy now, hehehe:):). "No arch and love it", wear moccasin’s they are great”. “God made me this way" and I love it. So I just turn it over to God and haven’t had any problems. Except, with my cowboy boots and spurs on , I have gotten all tangled up in my spurs and tripped my self a few times because of my out word bent Bowleggs,,,hehehe:):). “God Bless you all”.

i have read the comments of the other people here and now i feel that i haven't been grateful for what God has given me. Both my legs aren't bowed, my left foot points outward making my lower leg looked bowed. I do not suffer any pain but do get the questions of why i walk the way i do. i don't wear shorts or skirts because i do not like the way my legs look, but i know that it isn't that bad. when i was a baby, my mom opted to discontinue to use the brace and the bar the doctor suggested. I would really love to find a place to fix my leg.

I was always active in sports, since the age 7. During my senior year of soccer, I started to have to wear ankle braces, my family joked about how I started to run awkwardly. The pain I felt was no joke. Recently, a good friend had mentioned that I was bowlegged. I guess that could be the problem, but I don't have pain in my knees like everyone mentions. I was wondering if any of you have severe pain in your ankles and calf muscles?

I am 61 yrs. old. My left leg started bowing about a year ago. The right one is starting to bow also in last few months. I have done some research and some say bowing could start from trauma, an accident when younger, arthritis, etc. I agree with the rest of you, it is painful, some days more than others. The weather has an affect also. I have tried and continue to use herbal remedies, some thinks for pain, ointments, but to no avail. I also read that the cost would be about $15,000 dollars. Ofcourse not all surgery, as some of you have mentioned is sucessful. I think I will try tying my legs together at night and give it a try. Someone suggested this on this site and it would be worth trying. I do have compassion for all those suffering and wish I could suggest something I have done to be helpful, but Ihaven't found anything yet. I will let yu'all know how I am doing in a couple of months.

I am 28, have severe bow legs and am just 5 feet and 2 inches tall. I am married (LUCKILY) and have gone through a lot of mental trauma trying to adjust with this problem. I have never worn shorts outside my house, never gone to the beach, never learned to swim, can never wear the pants I want to. My wife is very supportive, bless her and says that I look beautiful the way I am but her encouragement does not help me as deep down I know that I look horrible this really does make me conscious every day. Is there any corrective surgery out there which does not leave scars? How expensive is it? Is it available in India?

Bowed legs runs in my family, and it is just by chance that I got the worse of it. My legs were signifigantly bowed and at the age of 16, they started to be very painful on both sides of my knee. I want everybody to know that there is surgery out there to fix bowed legs and I had this done. However, I want you to know that your legs will never be completely straight but it definetly helps if you are signifigantly bowed legged like I was. The recovery is painful and takes about 2 months before you can even start walking again. I would suggest this surgery only if you are in a great deal of pain or if you are so self-conscious that it is affecting your daily life. Hopes this helps.

Im 24 and i'm sad. I'm bowlegged.. During my highschool days, i got so depressed everytime my friends teased me or asked me what happend to my legs.. it hurts me a lot. i can't wear shorts, bathing suits.. cycling and anything thats above the knee apparel. I want to be athletic.. I want to play volleyball, tennis, rock climbing, cycling, SWIMMING.. but how? Doing those things wearing LONG PANTS? I AM BOWLEGGED. And lots of people would laugh at my legs. All my life i've been making justifications.. I always tell my friends that I hate SWIMMING.. but its not.. it's just that i hate my legs. not only that, i also have a couple of scars on my legs. no matter how i tried to be hygenic or something, mosquitoes and insects always have their ways on savoring my legs.. huhuhu... That is why, if only i have the money.. the first thing i'll do is to correct my bowleggedness and have some make over my on my legs and make it flawless like what everybody is enjoying. And then after that, I could finaly go on swimming, cycling.. and so on..(IN MY DREAMS..) :(

Carrie Ann Don't believe everything you see on TV,they like to be dramatic. I just needed physical therapy. The thing is if you don"t fix it gets worse, because the osteoarthritis progresses. I'm 50 and could't fix it until recently because doctors didn't know how until recently. Look it up under The Hospital; For Special Surgery (limb lengthening). If you don't fix it and it hurts at your age you may end up needing knee replacements. So it's a good idea to discuss it with your doctor. And don"t worry too much it'll be OK either way

I have not been able to wear shorts, skirts above the ankle and pants, because of the stares, ugly comments, and dirty looks that I get. All I can wear are long skirts (down to my ankles) people always ask if I wear the long skirts because my religion or something and I have to say yes just so that I don't have to explain. To anyone out there who has a child with bow legs (and over the age of 12) PLEASE, PLEASE, take them to the orthopedic and ask for a leg brace. To anyone that cannot afford a doctor do what I do and have done tie your legs together at bedtime every night and you will see some results within a matter or months (it doesn't go away but you will see results) GOD Bless You All!!

I was born with a very extreme club foot(R). I have had 7 surgeries to correct my club foot includint multiple castings when i was young. It is the classic story you hear about when i was an infant the delivery doctor told my parents i would never walk, but with thanks to the Shriners Hospital of Minnesota i was a healthy boy growing up. Yes my right leg is completly different than my left as far as size and i know i have a little bit of a limp, but i was able to play football, basketball and golf in high school, and was MN national champ in Judo while in college, I found my knack in Judo and succeded in it. I am now 30 years old and married to a very lovely woman, so to the young man(Randy) above who was worried about his peers teasing him and not being able to find a wife, keep your chin up. Young people are very cruel lots of times simply because they dont understand, I would love for anyone on here with questions raising a young child to contact me with any questions as a young man dealing with a severe club foot and having been a patient at the shriners til i was 18. r_tjader @ hotmail

I was born in 1971 with Congenial Bilateral Club Feet on both of my feet, with no Heels at all, but with my feet turned inward and round outward like a ball to walk on. I went threw 28 Surgerys on each foot. Istill suffer from alot of pain and stiffness, but that is due to the factor of losing almost all my bones and tissue protecting my feet in the Surgerys, but I do know that there are a few Major Hospitals here in Indiana that are using my X-Rays now to repair the problem for other people in less Operations now then what I had to go threw to walk somewhat straight, unfortunately I walk with a gate-walk to the right, and I have no movement up/down, left/right in my ankles now, for all of my bones have seized together since then. I pray for those that do have this cause it is alot of hurting cause of all the corrective shows and the embarassment of people looking at you I mean Us. I now have a good life, I am married and I had a very successful job and I have a wonderful son. I may be in pain alot, but I'm happy at the times were God put me in this World! God Bless You All

But he is walking and running good and that is the thing that matters. Johnathan is two years old now.

Flat feet are not a joke! I have suffered from them my enitre life, I am 26 now, and have rigid flat feet. This means that there is absolutely no arch in my foot whatsoever. Even when I am not bearing weight on my feet, they are completely flat. I mean, thank God for the fact that I live in an area where the weather is always nice, because the only footwear that doesn't give me blisters and pain, are flip-flops. When I go to work, I have to wear 'em because everything else is just pain. Aside from those issues, they cause a plethora of knee and back related problems. I am already suffering form lower back pains and a very mild arthritis in my ankles; all this and I'm only 26!! The thing is, these problems will only get worse with time (I am sooo thankful that I have a caring boyfriend who will rub my feet every night!) Sure they look funny, as I have been told many times by friends and family, but its different to make fun of someone for them, or post ignorant comments on a message board intended for people with the problem. I hope this will be a little reality check into these problems and their seriousness. Same goes for any of the health related issues on this forum. Thanks for reading. Nat

For years now my parents and I have noticed that my little brother walks funny because his legs are bowing out at the knees, we believe the cause is that he has been sitting on his knees with the lower part of his legs to the side of him. I am very conserned for him (lets not tell him that...) He hasnt been growing much since the age of 6, he is 10 now and still very small, can his legs effect his growth in any way? Please help me, I am very worried for "Wee-man"

i am 21 years old and in the last year my arches have fallen in my feet and my legs have started to bow quite quickly, becoming more and more visible each day, i find this somewhat difficult to deal with as my family and friends tell me not to worry, though they giggle and stare, im not being big headed but i am attractive and have been offered modelling oppertunities in the past. now however im not being approached, this doesn't bother me because whether im goodlooking or not i hate being stared at, though i find the physical and mental pain so tiring, that i have led myself into depression and now have suicidal thoughts. is there any one in the UK who could help me as i dont know how much longer i can carry on working punishing hours of walking up and down stairs at work before i do something i regret. xxxx

Being bowlegged is not a joke. It is very hard to deal with this type of physical appearance. I have a beautiful physical appearance and have been offered many modeling jobs but unfortunately I have a bowleg. I am currently looking for a local ortho to straighten my leg so I can start a modeling career. I sympathize with people that are bowlegged because I know what you go through everyday.

I am 17 years old and was born with knock-knees. I went for surgery when I was 10 years old.(My knock-knees was really bad) After the surgery we thought it was a success, because I had straight legs. But then when I was 14 I had to go again. This time my knock-knees was worse! I went for surgery and it was a success! They had to put pins in, so they took that out at the age of 15. And on 16 we found out that they left a pin (which was suppose not to bother me, but it moved) So at the age of 16 I had my last opperation [we hope:-)]

My son is 16 and is going in for surgery in June on his left club foot. The surgeries at 6,9 and 12 months were great but now he is having pain and not standing correctly. My best advice is to be positive with your child, he doesn't need to know how painful this is as parents. Remember that surgery is hopefully only going to make his pain better in the long run. Make sure you get at least two opinions!

I am 48 years old. I was born with club feet-the right one was a lot worse than the left. I was treated with cast on the right foot right after I was born. Then my mother did exercises with my feet-the doctor told her if I didn't cry she wasn't pulling up hard enough. Then I also did tip toe walk and the doctor said that was good. I have had to have knee surgery because my knee cap will slide off-it's the right knee and I wonder if the club foot is not helping my knee to hold steady. Without the Shriner's I would be in much worse shape. We didn't have the money when I was growing up to help fix my problem. The doctors were so nice and I got special shoes. I have had a fairly normal life but I never could run very well. My legs were never really very strong. About 10 years ago I got inserts for shoes. I need extra wide shoes-4E- to accomodate the inserts but I know they have helped me not fall as much. About 2 years ago I fell down the last 2 basement steps and the bone came out of my left foot.It didn't break, the bone came out and the doctors did get it all back together. since that time my feet seem to swell so much and they hurt. When I walk without shoes on, my feet, on the bottom feel so bad. I don't know what to do. I dont' know where to go to get help. Maybe just arthritis-I am middleage now and menopause is nearing. I just hate the pain.

I think its a little too early to consult a specialist. Several babies look like they've got bow legs for the fist couple of months...I would advise that you wait till after he starts walking before worrying. Even after children starts walking, oftentimes they have apear to have bow legs but this corrects itself fairly quickly i.e b4 they turn 3.

oops i fell here when i was looking for flip flops sorry my bad english: Apparently there is a procedure that inserts a titanium implant in a foot bone, i think the astragalus or something, im not sure, but helps to prevent the heel to roll and reduces the look of the flat feet, for more information visit a doctor to personal evaluation. Some persons may have a cure.

I was told my son had club feet whilst i had my 18week scan.My whole world turned upside down, I just wanted a normal healthy baby like anyone else. I then searched on the internet for treatments available, the more i searched the more terrifying cases i saw.Small babies strapped in plaster but even worse painfull surgery. It looked awfull. The joy to have my first child after 2 miscarriages was overshadowed by this,i dreaded looking forward to my labour.I finally gave birth to a healthy baby boy.The first thing i checked were his feet, they were both turned in like a banana.I felt so protective over him and didn't want anyone else to notice his feet. The paedatrician came next morning and straightened the feet and put plasters on them, I was to remove them the following week and carry on doing that for the next couple of weeks. He was also given some shoes to wear at night which made a huge difference. All in all it took 2months for my sons feet to go back to normal.I look at his feet now and they look perfect in every way, you wouldn't be able to tell that he had some sort of problem. What i would like to say to all the mothers{esp Justine England} that have been told via ultrasound that their babies got club feet not to worry,I have been through this myself and looking back i think all that worrying through my pregnancy it doesn't help.Just think that you will deal with it once the baby is born and hopefully it won't be as serious as you think it is.good luck to you all.

I attended monthly sections at shriners hosp. they are the best I stopped going their at about 13. I have a question though I would like to know the probability of my child getting club foot because I just really dont want my kids to go through what I went through. Doctors told me it is not hereditary but from listening to all of you I am very confused.

My baby girl was born on Feb. 26 2003 with bilateral club feet. One week later my wife and I had an appointment to go and have her feet looked at by a specialist. Prior to attending the specialist my wife and I had our Bishop and my father administer a Priesthood Blessing (MORMONS) As we attended the specialist he casted her and told us that we would have to come back on a weekly bases. The following friday my wife took her back to Phoenix to see the specialist. As he removed her casts he could not believe what he had seen. Our babies feet from one week of having casts on they were strait. The doctor stated that he had never seen such a turn around from the severity of her feet. He had said befor that we were looking up to a year of treatment. But now he said he would cast her just for a precautionary bases for 2 more weeks and then possibly have her wear some type of splint that could be removed for baths etc., for maybe another month or two. I know through the blessing in which was bestowed upon her, and the faith in which my wife and I had with our Heavenly Father that everything would be fine, and sure enough it is. So please have faith in your Heavenly Father and everything will be fine.

I live in New Zealand and my name is Debbie. I was born in 1963 with club feet. Like some of the other commets it's not easy when you are growing up. I have been through a number of operations along with being in casts in the early days. My last operations was when I was 15 then 16 with a procedure called Triple Arthrodesis. Yes I could finaly wear normal shoes. In my teens and right through to my late 30's I would not wear many dress as this would show all the scars an also my calf mussels and tendons were never formed. I thought it was very obvious. I would be very carefull about who knew what was wrong as people can be cruel. But you know what I am just as good as people who are born normal. I have a good job, I own my own home (well the bank does)etc. About 5 years ago I did a scuba diving course and since then have travelled over to Solomn's, Vanuatu, and last year to Papa New Ginea. What I am trying to say is you must have confidence in yourself and hold your head up high as you have nothing to be ashamed of. Oh by the way I wear 3/4 trousers to work and the shops and also sometimes pop into the mall with shorts on.

It is difficult to have bowed legs as they are usually accompanied by flat feet and bunions. Your whole gait is thrown off.Even if tou learn to live with it and adjust your walk, you still have to put up with the comments.you trip more easily and as you age it becomes necessary to have and osteotomy so you can continue to walk....very depressing and not enough info about this syndrome and how it is passed down to your child

My son was born with bilateral club feet, and had has first set of casts when he was three hours old. 12 sets of casts and several surgeries later. My son's feet are still not corrected, the left one being worse, is pulling inward, and worsens as time goes on. We went to the Shriners hospital, and upon the second major surgery, they lost a pin in his foot! That would be his left foot, I have to wonder if the pin had been in incorrectly for six weeks, if this didn't cause the problems we are having now. I love the Shriner's themselves, and I really appreciate them all, but there is the chief of hospital ( also in charge of club feet patients) that is a jerk!! Upon taking my son to the yearly visit 6 monts ago, I told the doctor that I was concerned about my son's feet turning in again, and he confirmed this by showing me new x-rays, indeed my sons feet were curving inward again! This doctor treated me like my concern was stupid, and he told me to wait two more years, before we visited him again, and we would see then how bad they will worsen and do a probable surgery. I asked him about what kind of shoes I should put my son into, until then, and he said it didn't matter. I want everyone to know out there, you have patient's rights, and even if the services are free, you should still expect the best possible care for your children, and don't let a doctor treat you this way. I have since come home and talked to my son's pediatrician, and she prescribed to my son neutral tennis shoes, TM2000, with lifts in them, they help him tremendously, and offer ankle support so he doen't trip and fall. I am worried what the future has in store, but with my pediatrician at my side, I will find the best possible care for my son's feet!!
