The importance of parents spending time with children to play is absolutely correct. But somewhere, there is a slight emphasis on school performance. Why? A child who scores first in the class or for that matter in science or math alone is not intelligent. Each is special in his/her own way. After all we do have Ph.Ds in Social Sciences or Arts as much as we do in Physics and Maths - if that is the "intelligence" that most parents are running after. Just my opinion. No offence meant. Name: nisha Country: India Comment: V.fascinating one.Its imp. to read for every parent . Name: AshleyJones Country: Gabon Comment: how do you say thank you in gabon country Name: venkat pilgulwar Country: U.S.A. Comment: Interesting article.Good thoughts.Intelligent cannot be changed is a dobutful statement. Name: mother Country: india Comment: The article reinforces my belief that though the scope for improvement in intellegence is limited , appropriate parental guidance definitely increases the efficiency in usage of this limited attribute i.e intelligence on the child's part . Another important fact which we - the parents are afraid to admit is that over expectation from our chidren may ruin their happyness of life . The tragedy is that most of us( parents) have inner feeling that we have been unsuccessful in life and try to compensate this lacking through our children and and take an approach "they must excel" . So, let us deeply read the article and start looking at our children on that light and let us not impose everything on them that we could not do . Name: deeni Country: israel Comment: It is a very good article, but it should not be called "Intelligence - Can it be Improved". I am doing a paper on the relative importance of hereditary and environment on personal and social intellectual growth, and I found your title misleading. Your article should rather be called "The Role of Play in Intellectual Development" which is one of the many ways play plays an important role in the development of a child. Name: NIPA PATEL Country: india Comment: I agree with the article. I have two kids and I try to spend as much time as i can. I can see difference between my kids and others. In kids development parents play majore role. This article is good for those parents who are running behind materialistic life. Name: ad Country: other Comment: i didnt read the artical Name: Jayne A teacher and mother Country: england Comment: Thank you for taking the time to write this article, it is very refreshing to hear views like my own. Concentration and a have a go approach are so important in children,s attitudes. How else will they learn these attitudes unless they are modelled by a caring adult. (It doesn't neccessariyl need to be a teacher, just someone who cares enough) Name: Jacintha Country: india Comment: I have found your article very helpful and knowledgable. Parents play a vital role in the upbringing of their children. Parents arae the best teachers. Name: Sunil Country: india Comment: When I started reading this article. I though this is nice article and one's intelligece can be changed. But at last you have mentioned intelligence can not be changed. But I think it is wrong to say. Name: kala Country: england Comment: My son is 4 years old.He is in the Nursery group. The problem is,ailthough he talks well,The words r not clear,in our native lang. as well as in EnG.Eg. He say the same accent for S,H &X.Then for phone,he says Tone etc.Because of this we find difficult in understanding his conversation 7 he is getting irritated. Please suggest!ksp38@rediffmail.com Name: mata rani Country: india Comment: The article was nice but no solutions were offered. In today's world it is not easy to spend so much time with our children. The kids start expecting us to sit with them all the time and will not take initiative and learn to play on their own. They should be left alone, even with the lego toys, for them to use their imagination. Name: Naiya Patel Country: canada Comment: HI!!! "KEM CHHOOOOOOOOOO" Name: ....... E-mail; mohandg@emirates.net.ae. Name: maya Country: india Comment: I do agree that children will learn a lot if we spent more time with them and give them good guidance. Though mom likes to spent more time with the child she cannot do all the time as she has some other work to do. As mom is spending more time with the child, the child always wants her mom to sit besides her and play with her. To get the attention of her mom she starts crying or pretends as if she is crying or the child will do something to grab the attention of her mom and it is difficult for her to carry the child always. In this case what do you suggest? Name: anuradha Country: india Comment: you are ok, but what about each and every age group? Name: bk Country: malaysia Comment: The article was interesting but you have ended with no solution. Name: sonia Country: india Comment: your article was good but you ended it up abruputly. please give solutions as to how to work on kids to make them more intelligent or to maintain their way of working . help. Name: Maureen Bell Country: usa Comment: I believe it is necessary to give much time to your children. But giving so much time is sometimes impossible. Today, one needs to make money in order to live and the only way to do so is to work, away from your children. However, since my husband has a fine job, I am an at-home mom. Still, though, I find it difficult to spend much time with my children, as I must scrub dishes and clean floors on my hands and feet. I must shop, cook meals, and I love to read. Time is of the essence. Where does it all go? Name: Lakmali Country: other Comment: Your Artical is better. But problem is there were no separet to age group. because it was be different to age to age. Eg. When we get yrs 1-5 age group & 5-10 age group. it was to be a different 1 by 1. because there memory capasity is different. Inthat, when we Improve there intelligencey.but how ever bacically your ideas better as commenly. I will hope better articals in yours' website in the future. we will improve our children's Intelligency, since there baby time. Name: Ravi Kulkarni (kulkarniravi@yahoo.com) Country: usa Comment: I totally disagree with the author in her contention that intelligence is something fixed and can't be changed at all. First of all there is nothing called one "intelligence". It is now clear that there are multiple "intelligences" and it highly dependent upon the culture in which a person grows up as to which one or many of those intelligences show up more prominently. Secondly, brain is not something that comes totally preprogrammed at birth. A whole lot of learning takes place which is very fundamental in nature, which lays the foundation for all future learning, between the ages of -1 (prenatally) and 3 years. If appropriate stimulation is provided at this stage, there is really no limit to which a child can grow. My own son (now 19 months) can already speak in full sentences, can draw rudimentary pictures, sings simple tunes and so on. Name: sANDEEP Country: india Comment: I wanted to read your artical for all the do's and Don'ts for parents towards a growing child, now that is fine but it seems you never suggested the solution in the end , but end up the artical very adruptly, write some more words. Name: mini Country: india Comment: The article made an interesting reading. But I would like to know how the older generation of people grew up without any parents guidance, books or journals to help them. Were they also not intelligent? Infact there were more nobel prize winners in india in the early days and not now a days.
