I believe the first thing parents should do is accept heir childs fate... Do listen if the doc's says there is little that can be done. Hoping & Wishing for some mirical is senseless and the child picks up on such things. Don't love your child IN SPITE of the problems... Love them because of their problems. I was born with sever microthalmia meaning one of my eyes was unusually small & it was blind... Over my healthy eye was a flap of skin that needed removing.... I've a Hydroxyapatite Ocular implant and a glass eye to correct the problem... I look ok altho one of my eyes is smallet still and has not much movement. My parents always hoped some new medicine would make me whole... Make my look perfectly normal... Heck! Before I recieved my first prosthetic eye I was not allowed in family portraits... These things stay with you forever... Differences need to be viewed as another type of sameness for everyone sake

I agree ,that it is realy difficult for the new parents to accept that something is wrong with their child especialy if they have been told throughout the pregnancy that everything is fine. It is a heart breaking experence that leaves deep marks on the parents mently. This is exactly what happened with us,Our son looked perfect till he contacted fever which would'nt come down .On investigations we found out that he had posterier urethal valves, this is a congenal problem and occures only in the male child. We were very lucky to have found the right doctors at the right time and our son was operated at the age of three months. He is fine now, thank God.Our second baby is also fine dose not have any problem. But before her birth I ,too used to get very scared that she might have some problems and hence did undergo a lot of tests including genitic counselling. This whole experiance have left me more sensetive ,and defenately change my focus of life
