I recently had no choice but to put my 13 year old daughter back in diapers due to her constant bed wetting. I decided just to diaper her at night, but one night she'd had numerous bowel movements so I decided on continuing to diaper her that day as this was unusual. Unfortunately when we were at the supermarket I noticed she needed a diaper change so had no choice but to change her in the bathroom. I explained this to her and she simply nodded. When we were in the bathroom I laid her on the changing table and began changing her diaper, much to my surprise, with no fuss from her. A few hours later we were still out and she asked for a diaper change, no fuss. She continued with this behaviour for a few days, before revealing that she enjoys wearing diapers now. This is great as I can change her diapers when needed, without any fuss. But is this normal for a 13 year old? I'd love to hear others' stories too!

Recently at a sleepover I was dared to wear a diaper. My mom took it as a joke too & in the morning said "lay down & I'll change you" but when she checked me I had actually pooed it. Bad. She put another diaper on me & later (btw my friends had gone home) she checked me & I had done another bad poo. I didn't mean to but anyway she diapered me for the rest of the day & sure enough I needed the diaper. I had to wear diapers for a week & then my mom said that everyday after school I will get a diaper put on until the following morning & on Fridays after school until mnday morning ibwould be in diapers 24/7. I now have this routine & I must wear diapers on any days that I'm not at school. I'm 13 & wearing diapers is okay but my mom changes me anywhere. I usually do a lot of dirty diapers which can be a little awkward but I guess that's what diapers are for. Does anyone else have a situation similar to mine?

I am a 22 year old male, I wet the bed until i was ten years old. My parents tried everything to get me to stop. I went through months of hypnosis and years of therapy neither of which worked. My parents tried one of those bed wetting alarms, the device got shorted out and i was electrocuted in my sleep for like an hour until my brother woke me up. They gave me medication, and would not let me drink anything after 5pm. If you are a parent trying to stop your child's bw, stop and ask yourself what you know about it. If you never wet the bed you don't know anything about it, so stop acting like you do. Your child is the one carrying the burden not you, the child want's to stop more than you want them too. I quit on my own around age ten. I got a quite alarm that would wake me up every 2 and a half hours or so throughout the night. and just talk to your kids. the reason why we wet the beds as kids is because most kids are scared or stressed out about things. Me and most the kids in my group therapy who wet the bed were also molested at early ages. The key is to not talk directly about the bed wetting don't even mention it.

Cheryl, Hi, Our youngest one still is soaked every night. Her oldest sister has been relatively good, but is currently in discipline again for teasing her sister. Our middle one has been good lately. times lately for teasing her younger sister. She will be in it for one month,and she must do her own laundry and hang it out on the line to dry , and then fold it and put it away as part of her punishment. hopefully she will finally learn not to tease her sister this time. Bed-wetting has been accepted as a common problem for young children. However, when the wetting continues after 5 years old, testing for kidney condition should be done. My oldest son wet the bed until his adulthood. He was born a sleepy baby and know experiences urinary tract infections which are uncommon for males. Please do not spank or embarress a child or let other people tease them about this problem. The child will become shamed or angry. Be patient and concern for their feelings. Weak bladder can be heritary. Would you punish a person with an disability...a bed-wetter is not able to control their bladder while sleeping; usually the wetting occurs while in deep sleep. Love and compassion is the best treatment. Follow through with a medical check-up,the condition could be more serious than you want to believe.

My boys wet the bed a few times a week they wear 12ply training pants made for them. They each have 2 pairs of tight plastic pants on. If they have a dry night I take one pair off. If they have a wet night I put two pairs on no questions asked. Some times one has 9pairs of plastic pants. Leg cutters leaves red marks on legs tight. Dry nights comes very soon. On week ends at home long tee shirt with no pants. Can see the rubber pants for this is their pants. To go out on week ends just tight short pants with rubber pants showing out of legs if possible. Not too much but a little. This is the rule for bedwetters at my house. When they will be dry off will go the rubber pants butthe training pants will stay on for a while. When I was a boy I had to wear playtex rubber pants with pin on 4 diapers. 24/7 They were very tight the rubber pants but not leg cutters very easy on the legs. Later when I out grew the playtex rubber pants I wore super size tower plastic pants leg cutters. But not for long I did stop bed wetting. Put your children in diapers pull ups. good nites teen throw away diapers and 2 pairs of plastic pants but not leg cutters. They make very nice teen plastic pants to day. day.

Meggin, I recently had to get larger plastic panties for y younger one as I was having leaks and could not figure out why. So I put her in the bedtime diapers and plastic panties earlier and let her play and run around. After she did this for awhilr I chescked the plastic pants and found that they rode up over the edge of her diapers at the back of her legs and that caused the leaks. Larger plastic panties did it. Yes she is wet in the mornings still. The oldest one has been behaving well since the last 2 times I had younger sis get the diapers and plastic pants out when it was time for them to be put on older sis. Cheryl

I have found that ours is more wet in colder weather, and also has more frequent day accidents when it is cold outiside. Hello again, everyone, I just posted a question and made a mistake in my post, we are having the problem which was mentioned with the younger one of our three oldest daughter, who has a medical problem, and has a underdeveloped bladder, and has accidents and wets the bed, butr also needs to wear didies during the day, as she has some accidents then, too. We recently noticed this problem of her plastic panties leaking, in the daytime. Dear Cheryl, Hello, It is nice tohear from you again. Our youngest one has been behaving lately, but our older one still gets in trouble a lot. We have also been having problems with her helping out with her chores and laudry,which is part of thier discipline to teach them respoonsibility, our older one hates to do laudry, so we are trying something new, if either of the girls run low on thiier supplies, that is if they have 2 or less changes left, then their discipline is extended a week. So far our younger one has only had her total time being disciplined ext4ended once so far,while her olkder sis doesn''t seem to care about anything, and has had her discipline time extended twice. She has also been in trouble as she has not been trying at all in school, and brought home a very poor report card lately, with most of her grades below a C-.She does not ususally get disciplined if her grades are a Cor above, which we think is only fair, but she dowsn'teem to care, even though sboth her and her sister is gifted and in all honor level classes. Hi Amy. I wear diapers to bed every night. My mom puts them on me like a baby and it's really embarassing. I have to lay down on my bed while she picks my legs up, wipes, lotions and powders me, then puts a thick disposable diaper on me. This has been happening for months now. Dear cheryl, HI, How are you? How have things been there lately? Things with the yougest are still as yours are here too, wet mornings, ect... The two older girls have both been in and out of diapers for teasing thier lil sis, but the younger has only been in them once in the past month for teaing her little sister and we think she may be making progress,we will see. I waa thinking lately and have a suggestion for you if your older one tease her lil siter again you can try and it might work, it seems to work better than anything else for us. Below is an idea of what we do, with the girls. When she teases her little sister, tell her that she has earned time in diaers, but tht beginning the very next day, when se gets home right afer schol, she may use the bathroom once, but then she has to go upstairs immediately and will be in diapers, every night as long as she is currently in diaper discipline for and that on Firday night, right after school, as part of her punishment she will also be in diapers 24/7 until the following Monday morning before school. Our girls also have all privilidges taken away during this time, computer, phone,palying with friends, ect, but if their firends come over for something special or wannto to see them, or do schoolwork togehter, they may for special occasions, be told they but with the understanding that they must wear diapers under thier regular clothes, all weekend, and wherever we go, unless it is a spcial occasion, or a special holiday. They just have looser fitting clothes on over thier didies, we have bouhgt some things which are a bit looser, eg, sometimes they weasr looe fitting pants or shorts, or a blouse and a long skirt, also this way the punishmetn is kept just betwen them and us, uless any family members know about this.You can also have her help you with chores, we do this, by having her do such things as each time she is changed, rinsing her wet and messy diapers out and putting them in thier diaper pails to soak, and she cn help you take her laundry after it is washed and she can help you by helping carry it to her room, and placing everything where it is needed. Also, as part of her discipline she can also help by washing out her plastic pants every morning and rinsing them and putting them someplace to dry. We do these things as long as the discipline lasts, esp for many repeat behaviors in a short period of time. And of couse each time they repeat the misbehavior, the punishment is extnded in length. Also, if they have misbehaved realy badly, or many time in a short period, of time, we have on occasion, in addition to everthing else made them say in bed, and do thier homework in bed, too, all weekend, beginning on a Friday night,as part of thier punishment. This seems to work best of all for teaing we have found.I hope it may help. P> S> I forgot, we also make them watch us get everything ready and when thye are in diapers as punishment, they have to have Mommy get them ready for bed BEFORE thier little sister,is gotten ready, in addition thye mhave an automatic earlier than usual bedtime, and still have thier little sister wathc them while thye are put i in diapers, as this seems to help Email me bcak when you get a chance. hi, you know what helps stop wetting? if you tell some body you know well.tell them how you feel about wetting the bed,then just were a diaper at night and take it off in the day.but if anybody puts you down for wetting, dont think anything of it cause wel all have done it at one time or another. i was a heave wetter when i was younger, now its not so bad, but i still wet my self at night, and i am 20! i know its stupid, but it happens. dont be emberased about it. thats the main thing!

Dear Cheryl, Hi again, I forgot to tellyou that yes, the girls' younger sister stil is in diapers as she still wets the bed most nights. She may be dry for 2 or 3 nightsand then be saoked (wet) for the next 7 nights, or she may be soaked for 2 weeks in a row. she still has some daytime accidents too. but at lest we know that this is due to her having a medical problem of an immature and weak bladder. And she still cries and gets embarrased about wetting the bed and having daytime accidents,too. And as you know the girls like to tease her at times, this is why they are in and out of diaper punishment. Cheryl, Hi, It is nice to hear from you again, things have been quiet for a month until just last night, our oldest teased her little sister again, so she got a aspanking and was told that she will bein diapers each night right after school each day until the next morning for a weeks for teasing her little sister again for wetting the bed. The youngest one started tolaugh at her older sister, but was warned that if she does this again, she will also be in diapers for one week, for tesaing her older sister, about being punished. We are alos waiting for mid term progress reports form school, as our older daughter does not sem to think that it is important to do well in school,and has gotten 0's on her homework in thepast. The girls are very gifted and hve been told that they need to get a grade of at least a C in all of thier subjects, or they will be properly disciplined. Eachgrade on thier progress report or grde on thier report card below a C earns them a good spanking and time in ddiscipline. TO answer your questins, things have been quiet here, until judt the other day. both gitls teased their younger sis again, after beung warned what would happen ig they did this, so they are both in diapers for a month, and as our oldest still insisted on keepimg on teasing her sis she has been told she will be in tem 24/7 for the 1st 2 weks for this, and ropld her if she does not stop teasing her lil sis she will be in thrm 24/7 for the rest of the summer. her suster was also told the same thing and warned about the possible consequences of teasing her lil sis. To answer your question, our youngesthas had a few more dry nights lately, but still has mosly wet nights, as she has an underdeveloped bladder, that she was diagnosed with at birth. we also get things ready early for our young one, but if the older girls are being punished for teasing their sister, we wait until it is time for bed,or time to be changed duting the day and they have to help get everything needed out, and watch Mommie get everything ready,9eg. fold rhier didies and put theie plasric panties out on their beds. if they are punished they are also reminded each time this happens of why they are in diapers, to try and help reinforce their disciplne,and hopefully help to learn to be more mature and grow up. also, i don'y know if i told you this before or not, but both older girls have to help rinse out their didies when in punishment and and also have to help do their laundry and fold and put it away. write back when you get a chance. cordially, meggin

We do the same thing with our girls, since you suggested it, now also when any of them is being punished everyone watches them or mommy get thier diapers out and watches mommy get them ready for them, and watches them being put in diapers and plastic pants,even if it is one of them who is not in diaper dicipline at the moment as a reminder of what will happen if they tease thier little sister, and thier little sister is allowed to watch too so that she knows that they are being disciplined for teasing her. Also eaach morning they have to rinse thier diapers and plastic pants out and put them in a diaper pail, and hang thier plastic pants in the shower to dry. Meggin, In the mornings the oldest girls diapers are removed and she has to put them in the diaper pail and she has to rinse out her plastic pants and hang them up to dry so she sees her plastic pants all day and knows that if she teases again she will have to wear them again. Dea cheryl, Hello, aagin, good to hear from you we also keep everything in the girl's rooms just in case it is needed, but where they can see it to remind themof what will happen if they tease their sister. To udpdate things our older one teased her sister other day again, so as this is the 2nd time in less than 2 weeks, her punishment will be extended(doubled) for this. Our younger one has not tesed her little sister since early April , but as she also teased her little sister, with her older sister the other day, she will be back in diapers for one week. Our younger one has only teased her lil sis twice so far, as it has been explained to both of them that each time they tease thier lil sis for wetting the bed or having accidents thier total time in diaper punishmen is increased. the first offense earns them 3 nights or days in diapers the 2nd offense one week, the third offense 2 weeks and the fourth offense is one month.This has seemed to work best wiht our youngest daughter, except a few dasy ago she repeated her misbehavior, so she will be back in diapers for 3 days to start, and if she does not repaet the misbehavior this will be the end of this. If she does repaet it her punishment will be increased, hopefuly she will not repaeat this behavir. Our older one teased her lil sis once then, and we thought that her discipline was working, and she stopped for a few months, but then started up again, just recently, and she has also teased her lil sis twice in the past 2 weeks so she hs been told that she will be back in diapers again, for a while now, each night right after school and 24/7 on the weekends for a month, for tesing her sister. Meggin, It seems like it might be helping. You might try talking to her when she has the diapers and plastic pants on, doing that may help you make a point. For the bedwetter you might try Motherease bedwetter pants. I use these and they are a well lined pants, absorb a lot and the child can pull on and off themselves and can pull them down if they wake up to go at night.

Try using the diapers and plastic pants for bedtimes only. If they tease their sister tell them that they will be in diapers and plastic pants for bed tonite. When bedtime comes take her to her room and take the diapers and plastic pants off the dresser and sit on her bed, tell her to get undressed and while she is doing that you take and fold the diaper and get it ready for her to wear put it on the bed. Take the plastic pants open them up, shake them out and put them at the foot of the bed ready to be put on. Do this while she watches. Have her lay down on the bed and diaper her then put the plastic pants on. Do the same with the other sister as well. Let them see you getting the diapers and plastic pants ready for them to wear. Maybe you already do something like this. Try not to overdo it to much.

Dear Cherly, Hi , We have sat the girls down may times and explained everyting to them and talked to them about thier lil sis's problem. To updat eyou on thins our oldest girl promised not to tease her lil i=sis again, but after 3 days, she did it again and was disciplined for this. Toansower your questions as to when the girls get thier diapers put on, It depends on how manay times they ease their lil sis each time, and if they keepit up after they have been told to stop it, it also depens id thye keep repaeting this behavior. The last time they did this, they were chnaged into thier diapers right after school, as they had been unrelenting u=in teasing thier lil sis, and earned one week in them including all weekend until the following Monday. If they have earned them right after school , though they may go to the tolilet first before getting thier dides put on. I don;t like to do this , but this seems to be working better than anything else we have tried, and we were at our wits end for months before trying this. I wil keep uyou updated with our sucess. Dear Cheryl, Hello, thank you for your idea. we have placed everything needed on the girl' s dressers whe they can see them to remind them that they will be used if needed. we also tried talking to our oldest daughter, and proppsed what you said. She said shw would think about promising to do this. Until she promises , though the next time she steases her lil sis she will defenitely be back in diapers, and as she was previously told each time she teases her lil sis, her time in diapers at night will aotuomaticall y be extended a few days wach time she teases her or makes fun of her again. Meggin, You may be getting somewhere as your younger one has not repeated. I would keep the diapers and plastic pants somewhere where she can see them and be reminded of what happens when she teases her sister perhaps a dresser drawer. Make a point to the older one that ther sister stopped teasing and is not wearing diapers and plastic pants to bed anymore. Ask her to promise you that she won't tease anymore and you will let her sleep in only her pj's, but like the other one keep the diapers and plastic pants in a place where she can see them and be reminded. Try backing away from it for a while.

Dear Cherly , Hi again, I forogt to tell you that we decided to use cloth pin on diapers, like thier sister wears. to empasize to them what it feels like to be wet, when one cannot help it. Also the girls had to put on thier pj's over their diapers and plastic pants , but when they are disciplined for teasing thier lil si this way , they have to show her and thier daddy that they have thier diapers and plastic panties on under thier pj's, this also helps their dispciline to be effetive , too. Dear Cheryl, Hi . thnak you for the advvice. we do dipaer our lil one who has a bedwetting problem in private already. We tried what you suggested in your last posty, but both girls still protested having to waser platic panties to bed. so we sat them dwon again, and explained to them that theasing thier lil si for bedwettin is a very serious thing and is not funny (especially as when she is wet and wakes up she is vry embarrassed and cries about this, evne though she knows it is not her fault. We toldthem that this behavior is not going to be toleaerted any longer.We warned them that if it keprt up the next time it happened that euthter one or both of them would get an immediate spanking and would beput in pin on diapers and plastic pants, and that thye would have to wear thme to bed for 3 days, each time this happens. We aslo told them that they would have to show thier lil sis and thier daddy thier didies and plasitc panties, before they went to bed. we also showed them everything needed for this, and told them that if they do not tease thier sister anymore that this wil not happen.we asked thme if thye understood they said yes, but a few days later , they tesed thier lil sis again. They each got an immediate spanking and had to go to bed in diapers and plastic pans for 3 nights. Unofrtuntaely this seems to be the the most effective form of discpling and getting the point across to them as to not tease thier lil sis, as when they are in diapers and are wet they know how she feels. It semms to be working so far, as the youhnger of them has not rpaeted this misbehavior, and her older sis has only repated it once so far. What do you think of this solution so far? Meggin, I'm sorry the plastic pants are not working for you. What I did was I would wait until just before the oldest girl went to bed for the plastic pants. If the girls don't want to put them on then you put them on for them. There were a couple of times that I had to put the plastic pants on my daughter as she refused to do it herself. I would simply tell her that her teasing her sister about her bedwetting was not going to be allowed and that she was going to have plastic pants on to. I don't know if this will help as I think you may have to back off for awhile. Try diapering the bedwetter just before she gets into bed, that way it will all be private. Might help.

Dear Cheryl of Cananda, Hello, I read your reply to my question about our girls teasing their lil sister for wetting the bed and having accidents. Thenks for tip. I took your adivce and did what you suggested, the only porblem is it worked for a while, then they started teasing thier lil sis again, and when they wre told tolto get thier plastic panties out at beditme , they told "No to make thema nd protestested until we made them put them on before they went to bed. So thier Dad and I sat down and talked , and we diecided that we would sit both girlsdown adn talk to them and warn them about contining to do this to thier lisl sis, and that if they kept it upwhenever they repated this behavior they would each be changed into diapers and plastic pants (we use cloth dipaers pin -on ones and platic panties as we now have 5 girls 2 new twin girls,) thier younger sis and them and plasitc panties wheas soon as they come home frorm school until the next morning, with the 1st offense eaerning them 3 days in diapers to start, and eah time the misbehavior occurs more time will be added to the time which they have to spnd in diapers. also, they get cnaged before bed, but they are not changed again , or do not get out of diapers until the next morning after breakfast, then they must get a shower and get ready for school. If they are in didscipline on a Friday or over the weekend they are in ddiscipline 24/7 from Friday after school until the following Monday morning, and if at home they can only weear a tee shirt and diapers, they also cannot have any firneds over when in ddiscipline, but if we go out they cna wear rregular cltoes over thier didies and plastic panites, so as to proeserve thier dignity and privacy,also this way their punishment is kept just between them and us. We have found that this semms to be more effective in helping them to stop teasing thier lil sister, esp as they know when in discipline what it is like to feel wet and uncomforatable, we will see how this works, what do you think of this? do you have any other suggesestions istead of this? Meggin, I had the same problem with my oldest teasing her younger sister who wore diapers and plastic pants to bed for bedwetting. Finally I had enough and one day I was ordering new plastic pants for my youngest and on a lark I also ordered a pair in a size to fit the older sister. When they came I told her they were to be put in her drawer with her panties and that if I caught her teasing her younger sister that she to was going to wear plastic pants to bed for a few nights. Not to long after that I caught her teasing her sister who had just been put in diapers and plastic pants for bedtime. I took her to her room and had her get the plastic pants out of her drawer and put them over her panties and told her she to had to wear them to bed for the next 4 nights. Each night at bedtime she had to show her father and I that she had the plastic pants on when she was getting into bed. We did this about 5 times and she stopped teasing. In the morning we also made her show her younger sister that she was wearing them.

Difficult problem. The picture I'm getting is of a girl who's never dry and never has been dry, despite her age. Am I correct? If so, there may be an anatomical problem with her 'plumbing', so to speak - one of the ureters (the tube from kidney to bladder) may be 'plugged into' the wrong place, not her bladder, and dripping urine directly into the vaginal entrance, for instance. On the other hand, if she's dry during the day for at least some of the time, can hold a bladderfull for a while and pass it, that's a different matter. She may have some sort of bladder instability problem. Of more concern are the psychological issues; has there been, or is there ongoing, some sort of family trouble or stress (divorce, bereavement etc)? The most frightening possibility is that she is being/has been abused, and is "infantilizing" herself to make herself 'less of a target'. I'd be off to a specialist paediatrician with her and get the medical things excluded first - sometimes surgery is called for - and then attend to potential psychological problems. Re: your eight year old who wets monstrous amounts at night. Have you had her seen by a doctor to exclude medical causes of polyuria (lots of urine), MOST particularly Diabetes (as she will require insulin), but potentially also problems with the pituitary gland in her brain (rare tumours; even rarer lack-of-function syndromes). If she's producing vast amounts of urine quickly, all the best intentions in the world may not be enough to keep her pants dry; My guess is that her wish for a daytime nappy when she can get away with it (weekends) is probably motivated by fear of wetting, and it must be pretty bad if she's willing to go back into nappies. Exclude the medical causes first; then and only then start looking at psychology (stress, divorce, bullying, or - God forbid - abuse?).

Layla, My daughter has also always wet at night as did an older sister who no longer wets as did their mother until age 12. My daughter gets herself ready for bed although she was able to get the idea of the pins pretty soon it took awhile to get the idea that the plastic panties have to cover the diaper completely to keep from wicking into the bed clothes. She gets heself ready in the hour before bedtime. Usually her sister and I will sit at the table with her and we play a board game or just talk or read or watch TV. AT bedtime she gives all a hug and a kiss and she's off to bed. Hi Samantha, My Daughter has more or less always wet, occasionally going a few nights without wetting.Untill recently I have Nappied her at bedtime as she had difficulty in fastening the Nappy so it would stay in place, however recently she has managed this herself. When she is having poo problems and is sore from straining to relieve constipation she withholds untill she is less sore and often does a poo in her nappy.At these times we use the sort with thin elastic and a smaller sise so they fit very tight around her legs to contain the amount she does. When i was a child, i got whipped for wetting. It didn't help. I'm 50 now and still wet. By brother wet as well. My mom made us sleep together, so the bed was always soaked. She thought that if we were made to sleep in it, it would make us stop. We had to leave the blanket down during for the bed to dry, then at night, back into the stinky bed to do it all over again. That lasted through my teenage years until i left home. i have wet the bed in hotels, at relatives, in a sister's chair once when i fell asleep. I sometimes wake while i'm wetting, but usually i just wake up cold and soaked. Tried alarms, no fluids after 5:00 pm, you name it. Nothing helps. I am too ashamed to go to the store and buy diapers, so i just live with it. The place always smells like stale peepee, so no company. The shame is incredible at times. The actual wetting part no longer bothers me too much, but the feeling of being a failure and of not being mature enough to grow up are something else.

I was potty trained at an early age but started to wet the bed around age 4. My parents were frustrated about the bed wetting and after a few visits to the doctor, nothing was found wrong and the doctor said at my age it was not uncommon to have weak baldders and have wetting issues at night. He said I would grow out of it and there were different ways to control it like bedwetting alarms or even diapers. I am a heavy sleeper so the bedwetting alarm was not good for me because by the time I would wake up enough to go to the bathroom, it was too late and the bed would be wet. So my parents tried the pull-ups but the tend to leak so I was put back into a diaper and I wore diapers at night until around age 10. No one made a big deal out of it, I was happy to have a dry bed and a good nights sleep and mom did not have to change sheets all the time just dispose of a wet diaper. Some of my friends knew I wore diapers at night and they were okay with it, there were some baby comments growing up (jokes of me in diapers) but it was no big deal because I knew they were kidding. I don't understand what the big deal is about a diaper. So many people think it is such a bad thing to wear a diaper. Come on people its not a disease, its a diaper. For the person having a wetting problem, it is such a releif no to worry about waking up with wet smelly sheets and have a bed ruined. If parents would get there head out of their a@@, not make a big deal of it, talk to the child first and explain that it is only plastic underwear and put the child in a diaper. I do and will still admit to wearing a diaper until age 10. I had a problem and thats how my family and I chose to deal with the problem. Diapers are not a bad thing as long as they are abused. Now some of these comments on this site of the kid wearing diapers to school and having their moms change their diapers at school is a big joke. No parent is going to do that. I think it is a shame that a lot of people posting here seem to have a sort of fetish about bedwetting and wearing diapers. I can't believe that these stories about teenagers being forced to wear diapers are true. I think they are posted by perverts. I am 17 and have had this problem all my life but my family are loving and caring people. All my friends know I wet myself in my sleep and they know I can't help it. True friends will never make fun or be cruel about this problem. There is no point trying to hide it and it is nothing to be ashamed about. I would be ashamed if I told lies about people or stole or took drugs but I am not ashamed about wetting in my sleep because I can't help it. Maybe I am lucky to have such a good family and kind friends. Also in Wales you can buy a product called dry-nights pyjama pants in supermarkets. You can get them for ages 10-15 and although I am older than this I am quite slim so they are quite big enough. With these special pants there is no need to wet the bed and you can sleep at friends houses without worrying about it. I also wore when I was doing my GCSE exams just in case. I now have a boyfriend who is the brother of one of my best friends. I was worried when he first asked me out because of my problem but my friend told me not to worry and to tell him, and when I did he said he knew already and he said it didn't matter at all. We have been going out for more than a year. So it is possible to have this problem and still have normal life.

Layla, My friends daughter only wets the bed and will wear plastic panties with a nappy underneath during the day if she stays in bed because she is sick and staying home from school and will be in bed sleeping. When she sleeps she is apt to wet and so the nappy and plastic panties will be on her then. Otherwise no as she is fine during the days. Like your daughter her nappy is wet in the morning but so far there have been no leaks and my friends daughter is happy about that as the disposables would often leak. The only thing my friends daughter has said about it all is that the plastic panties crackle when she has them on and walks or moves in her bed. Hi Layla,My neighbors daughter seems to have gotten used to the nappy and plastic panties now. My neighbor said that the first time her daughter saw the plastic panties she thought she would just wear them over her panties for bed, her mom had to explain that her panties would not be enough and she needed the extra padding so that the plastic panties would not leak. When it came time for bed the nappy was put in place and pinned the plastic panties were being pulled up and her daughter asked should I wear my panties to? Mom explained that it wasn't necessary. The next morning her daughter came to her and said she felt wet. With the disposable she didn't feel wet. The plastic panties were pulled down the nappy unpinned and she went to take a shower. My neighbor has been checking the diaper in the mornings to see if a booster is needed as with your daughter. Does your daughter usually soak her nappy or only when constipated? Also when your daughter wears her plastic panties during the day do you put a nappy on her or is she just in her panties under the plastic pants. My friends daughter had a very wet nappy the morning after a family party where she got to drink a lot. Also now when the nappy is pinned my friends daughter pulls on her own plastic panties so I guess things are going quite well.

She is dealing only with a bedwetting daughter and so she ordered 4 gauze prefold nappies and 2 pair of plastic panties to start with. Now the nappy goes on somewhere in the half hour before bedtime after her daughter has gone to the toilet, brushed her teeth and so on. Like your daughter she wets every night and if she stays home from school ill and stays in bed and sleeps she also needs to have a nappy on. The nappies and plastic panties she ordered are youth size and should fit for awhile. Who knows how much longer the wetting will go on.

Hi Christa, What sort of nappies and plastic panties has your neighbour ordered? My Daughter has always wet the bed and wets every night - hence I use terry towelling nappy and plastic pants. I dont know if you read the earlier posts about my daughter but we also have a little poo problem to deal with also - occasionally my Daughter does this in her nappy also. When I expect her to poo as well IE when she is constipated and hasnt been able to do it on the toilet, she wears plastic pants with the thin leg elastic that is also tighter to prevent the poo squashing out around her legs. When she does this there is so much that it is difficult to keep it contained unless the elastic is very tight.When she is constipated she wets more aswell. You need to ensure you have enough absorbency to cope,this prevents wet leaks. I use different thicknesses and sometimes a booster pad aswell depending on the situation.If its just for wetting i use 1 terry and a booster. This is put on just befor bed. sometimes she has her nappy on earlier and then i will use 2 terrys and a booster,I usually do this when for example she has been sitting on the toilet to do her poo and after a long time of straining cannot produce it,I will then nappy her in the bathroom. Once a nappy is in place it is not removed untill the next morning -hence the greater absorbency.When she hasnt been for a couple of days i put a disposable liner in the nappy aswell and after her sit on the toilet she is nappied but is encouraged to continue trying to poo into her nappy. Hi Christa, What protection does your friend use on her daughter at the moment. I usuually help mine put her protection on - its easier and does help to prevent leaks which dont happen very often. I bought some youth sise nappies and plastic panties there are many suppliers of these on the internet. Sometimes her protection is put on in her bedroom just befor getting into bed others straight after her visit to the toilet

Hi once again Christa and Layla. I'm not all surprised for after i got married we were living in a quiet little neighbourhood and i remember a couple of times a week that our neighbour (during the warm months of the year), would bring a round laundry basket full of diapers and rubber pants outside early in the morning and pin them up on her outdoor washline while the whole time holding a long filter tipped cigarette in her mouth. I remember seeing her two older toddlers maybe around the age of 2-1/2 and 3-1/2 years of age wearing only puffy white rubber pants displaying the tell-tale outline of thickly padded diapers underneath. Most babies do have to wear diapers for a time after daytime training has been completed and chances are good, if the mother is strict, old-fashioned, or just a "no fuss" kind of caregiver, everyone under the age of 4 years will be diapered for bed. I have come across it a lot over the years.

Hello Jeannine and LaylaI understand that it is not unusual to have a bedwetter and to have the child wear protection to bed as is Layla's case. I remember at the time thatI was suprised I guess you could call it at the fact that this woman had 5 bedwetters and the fact that she put diapers and rubber pants on the older ones as well at bedtime. I did not have a problem with it as every morning all 5 woke up with wet diapers, so I feel she did what she could do. Jeannine the woman you sat for seemed to know how to use what space she had and quite well. And yes I also sat for mom's who use disposables and some who used cloth.

Hi Jeannine, Thanks for your message, I dont believe in letting her poo in her nappy(or pants) as a substitute for using the toilet but as she wears a nappy and plastic panties each night for bedwetting sometimes it is the most practical solution when she cannot do her poo on the toilet. when she is very constipated she seems to find it easier in her nappy,usually she is only poo her nappy or dirty her panties if it is 2 or 3 days since she had a poo ( her bedwetting is worse as well when this happens).When she is at this stage she oftens soils during the day so wears plastic panties with her normal knickers over them - they are so much easier to clean than cotton ones and the mess doesn't get on her clothes. She was not a difficult child to toilet train- she is quite happy to sit on the toilet and strain untill she produces poo and does this every evening before getting her nappy on. I know of a couple of other mums who follow this routien.For the past 4 days she hasn't managed to poo, but today she was wearing plastic panties under her jeans and when she sat on the toilet this evening I noticed she had made quite a mess and managed to do some in the toilet - the remainder will probably be done in her nappy.so i am expecting a birty bum to change in the morning.

Its a simple fact that children and some adults wet the bed. My 8 yr old is still nappied on an in case basis as she wets a couple of times a week. We use terry nappies and plastic pants. I was a mothers helper when growing up and in high school. The woman I helped had 7 children and 5 of them wet the bed their ages when I started sitting were 4 - 11. When the mother interviewed me she informed me that she had bedwetting children and that pinned on diapers and rubber pants were worn by all who wet at night. After talking for a bit she offered me the job for the summer if I wanted it. I agreed and she started explaining to me about the kids and what would be expected of me. After she had covered just about everything she took me to the laundry and as we walked in there on a clothesline hung about a dozen pairs of rubber pants. She told me that the diapers were wshed and dried in the dryer but that she hung the rubber pants up to dry so they would last longer. I noticed that the rubber pants were of different sizes, larger sizes for the older kids and regular toddler size rubber pants for the younger kids. She explained to me that each child had about 6 pair of rubber pants and she had to order the ones for the older kids through the mail. She explained that after supper and dishes were cleaned up she began the diapering, the younger ones wore double diapers and the older ones wore triple diapers. She showed me how to fold the diapers for each of the kids so that they would have a good absorbant surface under the rubber pants. Over the weeks I would myself have to diaper the kids for bed so I would start by getting 2 stacks of diapers and putting one stack in the girls bedroom and one stack in the boys bedroom. I would then fold the diapers together and put them along with a pair of rubber pants at the foot of each bed so that when it came time to get that child ready for bed it was simply a matter pinning the diapers and pulling on the rubber pants before the child got into bed. In the morning I would remove the kids wet diapers and rubber pants,do the wash and get things ready for the next night. When I graduated from high school and left to go to nursing training there wer still 2 of the kids that were regular bedwetters. So the use of diapers and rubber pants for bedwetting is still very much a part of things today.

When I was a little kid, 3-4 years old, I was a serious bedwetter. My mother took me to a doctor and he told her to have me sleep on the other side that I was sleeping on. That is, if I was sleeping on my back I should try sleeping on my stomach or vice versa. It worked right away. I'm 77 now and I can remember that very clearly because I never had to use a rubber sheet again. Just sleep on the side that you don't usually sleep on. It worked!

When growing up I suffered from secondary enuresis. This started after my parents divorce.I was about 6. It was most embarrasing and added to my moms already stressed life.I was soon taken to a doctor and put through a most embarrasing examine. He suggested diapers for a while and soon I found myself being diapered every night by mom. I fought and cryed many nights but soon realized that the diapers and plastic panties really beat a wet bed. Soon things were much calmer in the home. Mom and I started to get along much better and I realized that diapers would be OK till my bedwetting stopped. Well it stopped, but 3 years later, except for a few very embarrasing events, I think this was the best way to handle the situation. I had a girl cousin my age that wet also, she was not diapered and she was very restricted in activities and the home was always in termoil over her wetting, never mind the smell in her room. It would be helpful if other previous bedwetters were able to share experiences to help us all learn. By the way my son wet his bed, we just kept him in diapers and made no fuss about it until he stopped at age 7.

I gather that we think a lot alike on the use of cloth diapers and rubber pants issue for bedwetting as well as for regular use. Regarding your question about diapering, it all really depended on how the children were behaving, what time i arrived to babysit, and what time i changed the baby for the last time during the night. On evenings when i had to babysit early, say around 5:30 p.m. or so, change time usually took place for the most part no later than 7:00 p.m., which was usually about the same time i changed the baby for the last time during the night. However on busy nights when the mother had me washing laundry or cleaning up the house, i would normally change the two older children around 6:30 p.m. This allowed me time to get the household chores done without having to worry about watching the clock. However it really boils down to personal preference as i have babysat for other mothers who promptly diapered their children right after the supper dishes were done. Sometimes this meant by 5:00 p.m. With my own children i was quite content if they were diapered by 7:30 or even 8:00 o'clock p.m. Talya.

Sorry I did not get to answer you at any length but have been quite busy for a few days. As far as rashes were concerned we left the diapers and rubber pants off when possible or used only a diaper. I preferred to let them run around bare bottom and let the air circulate throughout the diaper area. This seemed to clear up rashes quickly. As for the 2 bedwetters you mentioned, ages 4 & 7, you mentioned their mother sometimes had them in their diapers and rubber pants when you got there. Being the old-fashioned type mother that i am and adding to the fact of being a nurse and midwife meant choosing only cotton cloth diapers and rubber pants full-time. Even during camping trips i religiously used diapers and rubber pants. I remember how i would fashion a makeshift clothesline from our trailer out to one of the trees nearby so that i was able to hang up wet rubber pants, baby bibs, and beach towels. During these camping trips i usually kept the kids in plain pinned cloth diapers without rubber pants, usually reserving the use of rubber pants strictly for naptime and overnight. This worked wonders in keeping down the occurances of tidemark diaper rash. As for helping out mothers with toilet training the answer is not too much. I do receive occasional telephone calls from mothers concerned over the fact that their baby has a diaper rash, but usually i never get to the point of actually making a house call to deal with it. The only time i do deal with diaper rash and toilet training outside of being a nurse is during my post natal visits to those mothers who have recently given birth. Quite often those mothers with more than one baby wearing diapers does use cloth diapers and it is at these homes where i change diapers regularly. To answer your question regarding babysitting and bedwetting my answer is yes. I don't actually remember ever babysitting for so much as a single mother who did not night-time diaper her daytime toilet trained children. I think this is the household standard right accross the entire board. Even in our house we continued diapering our children for several months during the night in order to stathe off wetting accidents. In the morning rubber pants were simply removed and diapers un-pinned, and the earlier replaced with the latter being thermal knit soaker pants sometimes with rubber pants over top. Question: Did your children ever get tidemark diaper rash or elastic gather rash? If so, what did you do to cure it up or prevent it? Talya

Absolutely Chelsea. I was in my second year as a nursing student and had answered an add for evening babysitting. The mother who i started babysitting for had two older children aged 4 years and 7 years as well as a 20 month old baby who at the time was in cloth diapers and rubber pants. The two older children, bedwetters as well, wore cloth diapers and rubber pants with diaper pins to bed at night-time. Sometimes the mother already had them changed by the time i arrived, and other times i had to change them. It's important to keep in mind that a majority of mothers raising young children and babies continue the use of diapers at night-time long after daytime dryness has been achieved. Although this is something that has only been socially acceptable for the past 20 years or so. Before this time mothers contending with an older bedwetting child wouldn't have remotely considered or even dreamed of putting a fully toilet trained child back into babies diapers again for fear of backlash and criticism from other mothers. However this does not go to say that there wasn't more than a mother or two pinning up their toddlers behind closed doors in bulky diapers and rubber pants throughout this time. I remember one particular neighbourhood mother who would always wait till late at night before hanging up her daily load of freshly laundered diapers and rubber pants in hopes of hiding the fact that her 4 year old son was still wearing diapers. Today however it's nice to know that society is more accepting of this and as a direct result, less emphasis is being placed on toilet training children by the age of 18 months as it was throughout the 1960's. I have been a register nurse for over 18 years, and a mid-wife for almost 12 years now and have seen many an older bedwetting child past the stage of diapers. So many mothers i talk to today tend to make such a big issue about the fact that their 3 or 4 year old child still wears diapers or wets the bed. Bedwetting is extremely common in many children past babyhood and the continued use of diapers either disposable or cloth during the night is more common in households than many of us could ever imagine. I have personally dealt with children particularly throughout my days as a neighbourhood babysitter who had to be changed into diapers before bedtime to help prevent overflowing pyjama bottoms and drenched crib or bed sheets. So for all those mothers who constantly and continually fret over a bedwetting child, stop. It's perfectly natural and in most cases will totally end within a year or two after the child becomes toilet trained. In the mean time a night-time diapering routine may be needed. For those mothers who have raised their children in cloth diapers, i suggest sticking with your cloth diapers. If you used diaper pins and rubber pants, continue with diaper pins and rubber pants. If you used disposable diapers continue with those. Diapering should be done right before bedtime and in a non humiliating way. Explain to the child being diapered that the diapers are just a safety measure to keep him or her comfortable and dry till morning, not to treat them like a baby.

As a mother i have found that making a deal with my pants wetting children really works. Just recently i finished toilet training my toddler and for the first little while afterwards he would always have accidents both during the day and night. After over 2 months of putting up with wet pants, crib sheets, and outer clothing, i began making him a deal. I told him that whenever he peed his bed at night-time he would have to wear diapers the next night. Same as throughout the day. Although i may sound a litle old-fashioned when i say this, it really is so true that cloth diapers make a baby or child feel more uncomfortable than thin disposable diapers do, which is the reason why so many mothers switch over to pin on diapers and rubber pants once they begin to toilet train their toddlers. If you are finding that your child is still waking each morning with soggy disposable diapers, i suggest trying old-fashioned flannelette flat fold cloth diapers with diaper pins and baby rubber pants. Chances are good that your child won't at all like the bulky feeling of cotton diapers nor the babyish rustling sound of rubber pants and will make more of an effort to stay dry through the night. I know it worked for all of my baby nephews and neices.

If you do have an older baby or younger child suffering from bed-wetting, ask the child if he or she minds wearing diapers. You would be surprised at how many newly potty trained youngsters will openly accept wearing a diaper to bed. Another hint is to not make a big deal over putting the diapers on. Whenever i babysat my nephews or neices i would have all their diapering needs right beside their baby cribs ready to go. When it was time for bed i would simply undress them, pin on their diapers and pull on a pair of rubber pants over top of their diapers. If you keep things fuss free and don't make a big deal over it, children are usually ok with it and it saves a lot of wet, soiled bedding.

Well i live in ireland, i am a 21 years old male, that is working full time in a retail shop like alot of other people and i have wet my bed all my life. Now i have tried everything to get rid of this cause really when you reach 13 and are still wettin the bed you have no life with your friends cause you cant stay in anyones house or anything. I have a daughter who is 13 years old. She began wetting her bed at age 5 and was on and off ok. However, for the last 2 years or so she is wetting her bed often and medicine will not help. I am searching for ways to help her as she is not sleeping well and I feel that it is to think of wetting her bed again. She wears pull-ups at night and I do not put her down for this problem. My younger sister had a problem with bed wetting at age 5 that was for her easy to fix. The doctor told my parents nothing to drink after 6 pm and wake her up around 11 or 12 and physically take her to the toilet. It was not until she was 10 years old that the reason for the bedwetting came out. She was being sexually abused by the our care givers boyfriend. Fortunantely it was only outside toucing and her virginity is still intact.

My child is a nine year old boy and he wets his bed every night and I have used the buzzered that attaches to underware and is taking medication to stop it and the buzzered only help for about four months and then he starting bed wetting again. I am a 29 years old who have been refused to join the Defence force because I wet my bed up until the age of 15. I have not wetted my bed for 14 years but I can not change the pass. I did ask my mum when I was less than 10 years old about my bed wetting but she said I am just a lazy boy nothing wrong my Phychology so, the problem never been look at. Any parents out there please take the phychology affect of your child seriously because the circumstances will stay around for the rest of your child life.

My 7 year old son is still wetting bed if I do not wake him every night to go to the toilet. Doctors have said he will grow it out, but it does not seem to be happening. Our home is a two-parent home, happy at that. He has a 5 year old brother and there is sibling rivalry a bit, but as a mother I show equal love to ensure one does not feel more loved.

It is sad that the child is teased and screamed at when she herself is feeling miserable..i did that till iwas 14yrs but as soon as i got my periods i got rid of my peeing in bed. Same goes with my nephew he used to wet his bed till he was 15 but then it stopped. I used to feel so miserable that it was a shame ful thing i used to hide it from everyone. I specialised in picking up my beddings and dry them in sun i was lucky i was in Rajasthan,we need to tell our kids that it is ok that they wet the beds but very soon it will be over.I think i used to wet the be djust because i was tense not to wet the bed every night.Be a patient mom my 4 1/2 yrs old daughter wets the bed but i try and be as cool as possible with her. i don't want her to feel bad at all.I remember it very clearly what it was to wet the beds.I never lived happily
