My son is 2 years and 10 months old. Since November 2006 he is having cold and cough. This has created a lot of worrisome for parents as the cold-cough takes 15-20 days to go and then within a week or 2 is back. Keeping in mind his age, it scares me to see him on antibiotics that often. The doctor also put him on Singulair for a 3 month course. But, I do not see his cold-cough going forever! What should I be doing? The doctors out here give him antibiotics but no one tells me how we can medicate the root cause of cold-cough. It's runny nose with dry cough. Please help. Many thanks!

Cold is very 'common' in this country for infants and toddlers and hence shouldn't be much worried about. Take enough precautions, wash hands regularly with warm water for atleast 30 seconds with an anti-bacterial soap, eat fruits loaded with Vit-C (taking anti-biotics for treating cold is an absolute 'no-no'). Home remedies works great. Pain releivers are good for the pain related to it ('only' prescribed by your doc). Most importantly, keep your kid HYDRATED. Always consult your doc for something you are not too sure about, guess work(s) doesn't stand a chance when it comes to your little ones. Plz be sure of what's right and not. Cold takes it's own course and mostly goes away in a week's time or 10 days.

My son is 14 1/2mths and he started daycare 2 1/2mths ago. Ever since he started daycare he contracted a cold, which will not go away. The doctor thinks it's either allergies or just "daycare cold". I am totally frustrated as I don't think a cold should last so long. What can i do?
