Tips for Keeping Children Healthy During Winters

Taking right precautions during winters is essential to prevent illnesses in children. Here are some tips for keeping children healthy during winters.

With the drop of mercury cold and flu virus start giving rounds through your homes making your kids fall sick every now and then. Here are some tips given for keeping children healthy during winters.

Make Washing Hands a Compulsory Work

It is one of the effective ways to keep the cold and flu virus at bay. Your kids should wash their hands properly with soap and warm water every time they come from the playground or after using the toilet. Washing hands is very important before taking meals and it is one of the good habits to imbibe in kids from the very beginning so that he learn these habits quickly.

Do Not Touch Eyes and Nose Too Often

Teach your kids not to touch their nose and eyes too often and that too with unclean hands. Unclean human hands contain germs and if the eyes and nose are touched too often with those unwashed hands, it simply means the germs are getting deposited directly onto the mucous membranes that are present in the eyes and nose. And these germs are then absorbed rapidly in the blood stream thereby making your kids fall sick.

Vaccination

Giving proper vaccination to your kid at the right time is of utmost importance when it comes to your child’s health. Vaccination helps to keep the virus and bacteria at bay. Make sure your child gets all the updated vaccinations and yearly vaccinations on time.

Natural Immunity

Boost up your children’s natural immunity by giving them all the nutritious and healthy foods that can keep them away from diseases. Give them lots of fruits in the winter so that their body gets the required amount of Vitamin C to help fight germs and boost up their immune system naturally.

Proper Clothing

Make sure that your child’s head, neck and hands are properly covered with warm clothing. Put a double layer of clothing to keep your kids warm inside. Avoid scarves and hoods as these have strings attached to them that may strangle small kids and your kid might meet with an accident.

Precautions for Nosebleeds

If your child has a tendency for nose bleeding due to falling of temperature and pressure you may use a cold air humidifier in your kid’s room. Saline nasal drops can also help in keeping your kid’s nose moist and prevent it from bleeding.

Drink More Water

Winter is a season of dryness. Teach your kids to drink lots of water during winter to keep themselves hydrated. You can give them some warm drinks and soup which have a greater appeal in those chilling winter days.

Minimize Sugar Intakes

Sugar intakes should be minimised during winters. Consuming sugar during winter decreases the natural immunity and causes inflammation in the body. This type of chronic inflammation in the body is the root cause of many cold related diseases that your child may suffer in the winter.

Sleep Well

Make sure that your kid gets enough sleep during this season. It is during our sleep that our body gets to heal itself on its own. You can use some sleep inducing oils as prescribed by a doctor to get your kids sleep deeply. Massaging oil under the feet of kids also keeps them warm during this chilling season.

Play Indoors

Let you kids play indoors if it is cold outside. Make them arrangements so that they can play some games inside and keep themselves warm for some time.
Winter is a great time to enjoy but you should be careful about your child’s health. It is because kids are more prone to these cold and flu virus.
