Social Issues of Teenagers

Social issues of teenagers need to be tackled with great understanding to provide a positive environment to them. Find out the common issues of teenagers.

We find in the news and media quite a lot that since a long time social issues and teenagers are somehow related to each other. There is a point of debate over here, social issues are not necessarily caused by teenagers at every instance, but there is no denying the fact that the majority of such issues has teenage involvement.

Today, it is difficult to pinpoint any particular geographical area where social issues of teenagers are prominent, but several studies across the countries have revealed that these issues are more rampant in certain pockets of the society. There can be a difference of opinion here too. Here are some pointers where social issues and teenagers are interlinked:

Increased Independence

These days teenagers are offered with enhanced independence compared to the earlier generations. It has also been found that this enhanced independence has led to the occurrence of more reporting of social issues. Teenagers are at a stage in their lives where they are seeking answers to a lot of queries. This leads to confusion which in turn leads to rebellion so as not to conform to the rules and regulations. Teenagers are more inclined to seek the answers to their queries from their peer groups than their parents. They feel that they are better accepted in their peer group and try hard to be considered as a part of the cool and happening crowd. In this condition, it often happens that they get involved in acts that are the cause of specific social issues.

Bullying In School

We are all aware that bullying happens a lot in the high schools in myriad forms. Often these acts of bullying are found to cause physical or psychological injury and irreparable damage to the victim. This is a social issue for sure and the point to note is that teens who get involved amongst the group that pursue this “tradition” of bullying often get bullied to join the team. Earlier bullying was in the form of abuse physical and verbal, different acts of violence, and these days we find umpteen instances of cyber bullying as well.

Peer Pressure

One of the common issues which teenagers face is nothing but peer pressure. Peers are an undeniable influence on the life and all the choices of the teens now. Parents may like or not, this is an undeniable fact. When the influence is to say things like the hairstyle, the type or brand of clothes, it is still adjustable, but when the influences begin to affect the teen’s psyche in a way that he toes the line of illegal activities, it is a major cause of worry for the parents and society at large. Peer groups draw in the teens first through allurement, then through taunts and finally by threatening. The victims get more and more drawn in into the vicious circle and get involved in various forms of activities that are undesirable for a healthy society.

Teenage is a very sensitive stage of a child’s development and every parent has to go through this phase. It is challenging to raise a teenager but parents can play an important role in helping them to deal with the social issues. Parents are the only people who can help the child to open-up and clearly discuss the social issues and help them cope with it.

teenagers are very vulnerable. they are at crossroads as they come neither in small kid category and nor in adult category so they are more confused. Parents should be more cooperative and accommodating.

i am in the same situation. i tried to explain my son of the consequences of telling lie and the effects this has on life in general, but he is in no mood to listen. he thinks that his friends are the best and they know everything. if this continues, he will surely be in big trouble later on.
