Week 14: Baby Increases in Size

Week 14: Baby Increases in Size

By the 14th week of your pregnancy the symptoms of nausea and dizziness may start disappearing. However, you may experience other discomforts. Your baby will also undergo some crucial developments in this week. Let us take a look at the baby’s development and bodily changes that your may experience by this week.

This week marks the beginning of the second trimester, which is by far the most exciting phase. The growth of the baby speeds up considerably as the internal organs mature and he or she increases in size. In fact, his or her weight has already doubled from the previous week. Your placenta is functioning to full capacity as it nourishes the foetus as well as produces hormones.

Crucial Developments in the 14th Week of Pregnancy

The baby's major muscles are moving in tandem with the brain as he or she bends and twists his or her arms, wrists, elbows, fingers, legs, knees and toes. His or her nervous system has also begun to function.
You can hear a strong heartbeat with the help of an electronic device. It is almost twice the rate of a normal adult's. What's more, your baby has begun to sprout hair. He or she seems to have eyebrows as well as a little hair on his head. Aren't you just dying to see him or her?
By the end of this week, your baby will measure around four inches or 10cm. He now weighs two and quarter ounces or 65g.which is more than double that of the previous week.

Other Developments in Baby by 14th Week of Pregnancy

Your baby this week is developing a more distinguishable face with his or her eyes coming closer than before. His or her eyes are taking the final position now. Do not worry about the increasing hiccups increasing these days. It is not harming your little one in any ways after all.
Your baby is now the size of a lemon. Be sure to enquire about his heartbeat when you visit your doctor next time. You may be suggested a Doppler test to check his heartbeat. You may also hear the heartbeats if there are twins inside! Aren’t you excited?

Bodily Changes by the 14th Week of Pregnancy

Finally you are looking pregnant with your little one growing in size now. Be ready to face all the increasing pain and aches all over your body. However, the good news is, all these shall be gone with the arrival of your baby. Also, you may have to deal with flatulence, indigestion or heartburn that might make things difficult for you.
While you may feel tired, it might get difficult for you to fall asleep easily. These are some of the aspects associated with increase in your baby bump. However, you got to deal with them, as it is all about the most precious thing in your life!

Ultrasounds this Week

When you go for the ultrasound scans, you can see your little one moving his or her hands and feet. If you are lucky enough, you may also find him or her sucking his or her thumb! A very delightful scene indeed! This is the time when your growing baby’s bones are hardening.

Keep in Touch with your Doctor

When you are on your second trimester, you can expect some health issues. Even though chances of miscarriage are low after the initial 3 months, you must consult your doctor immediately in case of the following warning signs:
  • Vaginal bleeding, nausea, chills or fever.
  • Abdominal pains can be a worrying sign.
  • Increase in pulse rates, change in vision or irregular breathing is some symptoms you should let your doctor know.
  • Pain during intercourse or white discharge must also be reported to the doctor. Blood along with urine may be warning sign for a kidney infection.
It is surely exciting to see your baby grow in size every week. Make sure to stay healthy and eat well. For rest of your concerns you always have the doctor by your side. So, always follow your doctor’s advice and consult him or her immediately in case of any queries or issues.
