For those who are not exposed to the normal benefits of breathing exercises will be surprised to know that some simple breathing techniques can do a great deal in making you feel better. Pregnancy is a stressful state due to the array of changes that it causes in your system.

Breathing exercises are just about the perfect way in which you can effectively reduce your stress levels and develop an overall feeling of goodness and health. Regular breathing exercises during pregnancy can have enormous benefits during the pregnancy term, during labour and delivery.

Breathing Exercises During Pregnancy

Given below are some of the benefits of breathing exercises during pregnancy.

It Makes You Feel Better –

Sit up with a straight back and inhale deeply. This will make your stomach inflate as the lungs fill up with air, you will also feel that your rib cage is expanding. Hold your breath for a few seconds or a minute. Now exhale slowly and feel the relaxation permeating through your entire body. This simple breathing technique has proved to be an effective relaxation technique as well.

You Can Reduce Stress Levels –

During pregnancy, the mind is often filled with innumerable anxieties and these are responsible for enhancing the stress levels and causing complications in pregnancy. If the stress levels are not controlled, it can have fatal consequences on the fetus and cause miscarriage.

The best way to deal with stress is to stay away from them. But in reality, this may not always be possible. So you need to equip yourself so that you are better able to deal with stress without causing harm to yourself or the unborn baby. Practice deep breathing exercises. You will be amazed to find that this not only instantly brings down the stress levels but you feel more energised to take on the stress causing factor and face it head on, and solve it for good!

Anxiety, Fear and Pain is Reduced –

With a regular practice of breathing exercise, you can deal with various anxieties, pain and fears related to pregnancy with ease. Be it natural childbirth or caesarean, moms-to-be are always overloaded with a wide array of fears and concerns regarding pregnancy and delivery. Regarding the pain anxiety, one can practice regular breathing exercises to allay discomfort, anxiety and fear related to these issues.

Organs Can be Oxygenated –

With a regular breathing exercise; one can ensure that all the organs of the body receive their due share of oxygen. On an average, an adult breathes for 15 times per minute. This helps the body to accumulate all the necessary energy through the oxygen that you inhale. What is known as the “breath of life”, is taken in every time one inhales and the countless alveoli in the lungs along with the capillaries envelops them in order to exchange the oxygen and out-product carbon dioxide. Through this process, every time you take in a deep breath during the breathing exercise, the well-oxygenated blood gets delivered to each and every cell in the body. This enhances the fitness levels, provides energy and makes you feel good overall.

Finally, a regular practice of breathing will put in good stead when you are in labour. You can concentrate better and be able to effectively shift the focus away from the pain. This will greatly help you to lower the tension levels and lessen the anxiety. You can also use the breathing exercise regimen to induce relaxation between the bouts of contractions. Not to forget the manner in which it will benefit you when you are a full-fledged parent!
