How to Lose Weight after Delivery

How to Lose Weight after Delivery

Women do gain weight when they are pregnant. In fact weight gain during pregnancy is even recommended. But once you deliver your baby, it can be quite a task to regain your pre-pregnancy figure. In recent times, a lot of new moms look to copy celebrity moms, who get back in shape within few months of delivering their child!

Indian families tend to feed the expectant mothers a lot, as a birth in the family is a very important event in India. But this translates into more fat to burn after your delivery! Losing weight can be quite stressful both mentally and physically so it is recommended that you wait till you feel you are ready to start working out. You can also ask your doctor about when it is best to start working out, as having a safeis essential.
Taking care of the baby alone should be enough work to make you lose weight! But if that is not effective enough, here we list a few safe and effective techniques to become a Yummy Mummy.

Weight Loss Techniques

Yoga -

Yoga is usually the first choice for new mums when it comes to effective weight loss. It is safe, it can be practiced conveniently at home and it has different levels for amateurs and the experienced. Yoga focuses as much on mental health as physical health. Therefore, it not only relaxes you and makes you stress-free, but it also burns a few calories.
Different yoga postures focus on different parts of the body, so you can quickly compile a list of what techniques are most effective for you. It is best to also consult your yoga instructor to see what asanas are best for you. The difficulty and effectiveness of yoga increases as you advance through your course, making weight loss more evident. Therefore, taking up yoga is a good idea, for women looking to lose weight after their pregnancy.

Muscle Training/Gymming -

Gymming can be an effective way of losing weight, because weight training not only tones your muscles and helps you shape up but it also increases the amount of fats your muscles consume daily. When you work out, your muscles keep burning fat for almost 48 hours afterwards. Combining muscle training with cardio sessions at the gym can show almost instant results on your body.
Again, you need to consult a doctor before you begin weight training. It is likely that your muscles are tender after your delivery and you must take care not to strain them excessively. Working out excessively will also make it difficult for you to take care of the baby. Slow and steady always wins the race.

Jogging/Walking -

Jogging or walking briskly is one of the oldest and most trusted ways of losing weight. This is something you can safely try, as you do not need to consult your doctor before walking or jogging. However, make sure you warm up adequately before you start running. Excessive running in one day can make you weary and give you body pain. Always build up your running program slowly, by either increasing the distance or the time that you run or jog.

A Good Diet -

Perhaps the most logical option for new mothers is to go on a good diet. New moms can consult a nutritionist for the best possible diet. Always look at consuming nutritional food that is low on calories and fat. Never follow popular fad diets that could possibly make you weak, as this could affect your recovery process.
A good diet can also be combined with exercise, for maximum effect. This way, you can keep an eye on how many calories you consume and how many you burn up. Keep checking your calorie chart so you can record your daily progress.
These are just some of the methods you could adopt to lose weight after the birth of your baby. After all, getting back in shape will make you feel much better about yourself too. Good luck!

Working out at home with a few light exercises during the day is an effective way to burn more calories.Do physical work at home as much as possible. Do not sit idle for any length of time. Rest only when your body demands rest.Go for long walks carrying your baby. The act of carrying the baby will help in close bonding and the effort of carrying the baby for long distances will help you burn a lot of calories.
