How to Be an Involved Parent

It is very important to be involved with kids to raise them as healthy, happy and successful individuals. Read on and find out how you can become an involved parent.

Teaching a child something is different from training him or her. Teaching is giving instructions while training is to show and correct the child if there is any kind of mistake. In life, we need both the types because there are few things that you can teach your child, but for some activities you need to demonstrate. As a parent, it becomes your loving duty to be involved with your child so that you train your child well to lead a far better life.

Being an Involved Parent

Children have different love languages and it is important you find that of your child for being involved with him or her. If you have more than one child, do not use the same tricks with both of them.
Some children like when:
  • Parents assure them verbally
  • Parents hug them and give them kisses
  • Parents give them gifts
  • Parents spend time with them
  • Parents serve them
However, even if your child likes to receive presents, it is your time and unconditional love that is important for their proper development and growth. Depending on the type of relationship with parents, the well being of the child is determined.

Common Hurdles to Overcome to Become an Involved Parent

As a parent, you need to overcome following hurdles to become an involved parent.
  • Lack of Time –

    Doing activities with your child practically need very less time than you imagine. So just get started.
  • Inability of the Child in Doing Things their Parents Want –

    Teach something interesting.
  • Everything Seems Confused and Cluttered –

    If you plan and prepare ahead, you will be able to manage everything in a better way.
  • Lack of Interest Shown by the Child –

    Find out what the area of interest of your child is.
  • Lack of Creativity in the Parents –

    Read books and use internet to encourage yourself in getting creative with the kids.
  • When Parents See no Encouragement –

    Children learn from every single activity they do with parents.
  • When Parents Have Another Baby –

    Try to find time and spend it with your older kid. Engage him in some or the other activity. Make sure that the spacing between two children is proper.
  • When Parents Avoid Arts and Craft Activities –

    Getting involved in arts and crafts activities also help parents to develop a great bonding with children. You can get arts and craft kits for your children and help them with these activities.
  • Parents Do Not Have Patience or Time to Be With their Children All the Time –

    Sit and figure out together with your kid and plan an activity instantly.
  • Lack of Things And Ideas for Projects –

    You can start with anything you have at home.
Well, it is obvious that parents have lots of work and responsibilities to attend. But you should try to overcome the above hurdles as far as possible because it will have great impact on the life of your kid. Just spend some time, so that your child enjoys.
As a parent, you have to make sure that the home environment is loving, caring, nurturing and educational. You need to show your children that they are loved and highly valued at home and this you should do regularly. Always keep in mind that being an involved parent you will be able to have a positive impact on your child’s life.
