Diwali Ki Safai - Tips for Cleaning Your Home for Diwali

This year we will accompany you to do ‘Diwali Ki Safai’. We have listed down for you amazing tips for cleaning your house for Diwali.
‘Diwali Ki Safai' or cleaning the house before Diwali festival holds a great significance. Diwali is the biggest and the most important festival for Hindus. The major highlight of this festival is doing Laxmi Pujan and inviting prosperity and wealth in the house. According to a Hindu belief, cleanliness and positivity attracts Goddess Laxmi. Therefore, most of the Hindu households start cleaning their houses at least one week before the festival. Here are some tips and advices that you should consider before you start doing ‘Diwali Ki Safai’.

5 Things to Remember

Here are five important things that you must keep in mind when you start cleaning your house.
  • Make a note of things that are broken for example, broken window pane etc; and repair it before-hand.
  • Get rid of the broken things and electronics that cannot be repaired immediately.
  • Get rid of all the things that you do not use or require. These things include old clothes, shoes, toys, kitchen equipment etc.
  • Donate the things that you don’t use or require to old-age homes and orphanages.
  • Make sure that you keep the main entrance of your house clutter free.

Tips for Cleaning Your Home

Most of us are left confused about where to start from when it is about cleaning the house. So, here are some tips that can help you to make your confusion clear.

Begin with Electronics and Furniture

Starting with the clean-up of small things will give you big results. Begin your ‘Diwali Ki Safai’ with cleaning-up of electronics.
  • Use a cloth and a liquid cleaner to clean electronics like fans, tub-lights and bulbs. Make sure that you do it by taking all the safety precautions.
  • Put off the main switch or take someone’s assistance while you are cleaning electronics.
  • Clean your tables and drawers thoroughly and dump all the unwanted things.

Revamp Your Closets

When you start cleaning your closet you will realize that there are more than a dozen of pairs of clothes that you may not be wearing anymore. At the same time you will find some outfits that you haven’t worn even once after purchasing them.
  • Clean your closet with a cloth after you completely vacate it.
  • Fold your clothes properly and use a cloth storage bag to keep them well organized.
  • Keep different clothes like pants, shirts, sarees etc, in their respective bags. It will help your find them very easily.
  • If you are not satisfied with the idea of using cloth storage bag, assign each shelf for each type of outfit and stack your clothes in them accordingly in an organized way.

Organize Your Kitchen

Spring clean your kitchen before you start making your Diwali delicacies. Here is how you can start.
  • Empty your entire kitchen cabinet and get rid of utensils that are occupying space unnecessarily.
  • Wash the utensils that have become greasy due to keeping them on shelves untouched for a longer time.
  • Wipe your kitchen cabinet with warm water.
  • Empty all your food containers.
  • Get rid of the food items that are no longer suitable for consumption.
  • Do the cleaning of your refrigerator as well. Squeeze a lemon in warm water, soak a cloth in it and wipe your refrigerator with it thoroughly.

Clean-Up Your Bathroom

  • Dump all the old tooth-brushes, empty shampoo bottles and other unwanted things from your bathroom.
  • Do the thorough cleaning of the buckets.
  • Wipe the walls of your bathroom with soapy water. You can use a scrubber to clean the greasy areas of your bathroom.
  • Clean the flooring of your bathroom and toilet with bleaching powder.
  • Use hand-glows while you are sprinkling bleaching powder all over your bathroom and toilet.
  • Wash your bathroom thoroughly and ensure that there are no remains of bleaching powder.
  • Hang a bathroom freshener in order to make it a wonderful smelling place.

Tidy-Up Your Bed Room

  • Remove all the bed-sheets and mattresses. It is easy to wash bed-sheets in washing machine but you will have to adopt appropriate methods to dry-clean mattresses.
  • Do the dusting and cleaning of your bed and bed –boxes after you remove the bed-sheets and mattresses.
  • Wash all the pillow covers as well.
  • Clean the flooring and other areas of your bedroom using a disinfectant.
  • Tidy-up your bedroom after you are done with all the cleaning and by putting-up all the washed and clean matters on the bed.
Doing ‘Diwali Ki Safai’ not only helps to do the clean-up of the entire house but also helps to enhance the positivity in the house. Positivity and cleanliness attracts good luck and prosperity thereby boosting the Happiness Quotient of family members. So, this year ‘Jamke Karo Diwali Ki Safai’.
