Hello the Alpha fetoprotein test is a recommended test. This is a normal blood test which is used to measure the level of Alpha fetoprotein in the blood. This test is usually done in the Triple Marker test or in the Quad screen test. This is usually done in the second trimester of pregnancy. The Alpha fetoprotein is produced in the liver and yolk sac of the unborn child and is in the placenta of the mother

This is a test done on pregnant women between the 14th and 22nd weeks of pregnancy. This test gives exact accurate results in 16th to 18th week. There are other tests done along with estriol and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and inhibin A.

Hi this test is highly safe and recommended by a gynaecologist. There are no risks involved in these tests and no risk on infections as well. The test is performed like a normal blood test with taking a small amount of blood sample and is sent for testing

I support this test and recommend it to all the expecting mothers to get this test done during their 14th to 22nd week of pregnancy. You can do this test in a proper authorised clinic or a hospital at a diagnostic lab which hardly takes few minutes and is painless. You can get your results in a week or two.

Hello the Alpha Fetoprotein test is performed on women who are of age 35 years or older than that as they have a risk of giving birth to children with genetic defects. The women who have diabetes or who used dangerous harmful drugs and medications during their pregnancies or have a family history of genetic disorders are suggested to do this test.

Hi a gynaecologist said to me that if the test result of AFP level is higher than the normal level than there are chances that the baby has a neural tube defect. The AFP levels vary during the entire pregnancy and the increase in the level of AFP is due to the improper dating of the pregnancy.

Hello sometimes the result of the test is higher and abnormal due to the reason that the women might have had multiple pregnancies earlier or the pregnancy might turn out to be more or less advanced than the thought.

Please note that the Alpha Fetoprotein test is not a diagnostic test but is a screening test only. This test only informs us about the mother, if she is at risk to carry the child with a disorder or defect or not. There are very less chances of a negative result, about 10% to 15% in a 100% pregnancies tested.
