I have seen pregnant women having luscious mane and good nails. Their hairs are shinier and thick in comparison to pre-pregnancy state. This is due to the effect of hormones that are active during pregnancy. Estrogen is responsible for this. It prolongs the growth phase of the hair and thus there is less shedding which results in the mane appearing thicker. similarly with the nails. Nails grow faster and are harder. These changes are also due to good nutrition but not all pregnant women observe the changes./

If you are pregnant you may notice several changes in your hair and nails along with several changes in your body. This happens due to the change in the hormones and the other changes happening in the body. You may notice that your hair is fuller than usual and even nails growing faster than usual.

Hi all, during pregnancy usually 90 to 95 percent of the hair grows on the head and the rest of the 5 to 15 percent of the hair is just resting. After this resting stage the hair falls out even when you comb or shampoo it. This hair fall is replaced with new hair growth and is it studied that a women loses about 100 hairs a day.

Hello in pregnancy the levels of estrogen are increased which cause prolong growth phase. This causes less hair fall and makes the hair thicker. Some women may notice that their hair is shinier after they have become pregnant and sometimes even the texture of the hair changes. Women having curly hair might find their hair becoming straight and vice versa.

If you are pregnant your postpartum hair won’t be very luxurious. After giving birth to the baby the hair growth cycle returns back to the original pattern how it was. At this time you might find hair fall, but only some women find such changes in their hair not all though.

Mostly women having long hair suffer from these changes. There is also a change in the facial and body hair growth. They tend to grow faster than usual this happens due to the increase in the levels of androgens. You can get rid of this hair by safely shaving or tweezing it out, but try to avoid chemicals and epilators which might cause pain if the hair is into the blood veins.

You can go for cosmetic procedures for permanent hair removal like laser or electrolysis. These treatments are considered to be safe in pregnancy but they might cause skin pigmentations making the skin dark. It is better to avoid such treatments in pregnancy as the hair growth will go back to normal once you give birth.

Some women notice their nails growing faster and harder and some find their nails to be soft or too brittle. These are caused due the hormonal changes in the body and are temporary and will be normal once you give birth.

You can take care of your nails by wearing gloves while working or cleaning. Keep your hands moisturized frequently particularly where your nails are brittle. Your nails might take three months to get to normal after you give birth.
