Hi, homework stress is now a common thing in today’s competitive life. This stress has been increasing day by day and loading up on the children. My son is in the 4th standard but he has so much of homework every day that he literally has no time to do anything else. The change in the study pattern today has increased the load of homework. Sometimes he is not able to complete the homework on time as there is so much to do. Today homework is taking majority of the time and he is not involved in any other activities apart from that.

Homework earlier meant a part of study which should be done at home so that children could get a revision of what they have learnt in the school that day. But now homework involves a lot of time and energy and children are exhausted to the core. Even we parents are involved in it equally as there is so much to do. It is most of the times physically and mentally tiring. I have started planning and organising how to manage the homework schedule so that my child is not completely exhausted.

Hello, only we can help our children to get rid of the stress of homework. We can make a schedule for the homework so that they can follow and it can help reduce the stress from the children. It is important that the child does not feel burdened and pressurised by the load of homework. It is our responsibility to check his homework in each subject which is given and calculate the time required to complete each of them on time. Accordingly make him sit to do the homework with small breaks in between so that he doesn’t get bored.

There are some children who cannot sit in one place for a long time and have a habit of getting distracted after some time. If you have a hyperactive child then you can take small breaks in between the homework time so that they can relax and then again sit for doing their homework this way they will not get bored and will be able to concentrate as well. Do not force him or her to sit and complete the homework at one go. This way they might mess up. Also when they complete their homework reward them with their favourite food or dessert.

Children get easily distracted and it is difficult for us parents to manage them and control them from being distracted. Every child gets distracted and hence it is necessary to choose such a place for studying and doing homework which won’t make the child lose his concentration. Fix one place for studying every day, this will help in increasing the concentration level as well. Sit away from doors and windows so that they don’t get distracted. Keep the TV off and even any music if it is played. Make sure he feels relaxed and is able to concentrate on one thing only.

Eating healthy is quite necessary for increasing concentration and be able to study properly. If the child is hungry he won’t be able to concentrate and make excuses to not do the homework.Once a doctor told me to give a healthy snack to the child before he sits to study so that he will be able to concentrate and do his homework efficiently and complete the work on time. If he receives energy from the food he will be more active and attentive in what he or she is doing. The child will not feel lethargic and lazy to complete his work.

Time management is extremely necessary in such cases. All the kids have a habit of passing time and delaying things but we parents should not let that happen and see through it that all the work is completed on time. Make sure that your child plans everything properly and allots time equally so that he can complete his homework without any stress. Once they understand the importance of time management they will complete their work within the time and also not be annoyed. Also make sure to make it a habit that he or she checks his work before going to bed.

Just sitting with the child and helping him do the homework can also motivate the child to complete his work on time. Help him whenever necessary give him some good tips and also share how you completed your homework. Help him packing his bag after he is done with the homework. If you feel that your child has been over-pressurised with homework then you can have a talk with his teacher in the school. Also check whether the homework given can be completed within the time period given. Do not try to teach your child again as that is a common mistake all the parents do.
