It is very unfortunate that this world is filled with lot of money minded people. A handful of people are doing their work without any expectations. Such people do not even spare babies. And I am sad that even some paediatricians are also a part of this list. It is very difficult to find a good paediatrician who is available whenever babies need him or her and can answer all queries of parents and on whom parents can trust blindly.
From my experience I would say that paediatrician is not a person who can only prescribe medicines and cure the diseases in children but he should know the art of healing pain of parents which they undergo when their child is in pain. Yes, I know that it is their profession and they have to make money but child’s health comes first. But a person can only become a good professional if he or she is a good human being first.
All of this started when my baby got really ill. It was not a minor illness as my 11 month old baby was suffering with fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, cough and cold. It was a very bitter experience for us when we had to wait for long hours and after that doctor did not even examine the baby properly. When I and my husband were discussing our queries with him he just turned a deaf ear. He asked his assistant to check the weight and she did not even take his weight properly and the doctor was least bothered. Then he asked to make our baby lie-down and he just touched his stomach and said that he is alright. How can a baby be alright if he is suffering with fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, cough and cold?
He then continued writing medicines and he did not even bother to explain the dosage. Once he was done he started asking for fees. My husband paid him his fees and he went to get the medicines which doctor had prescribed. When my husband went to ask about the dosage he just started yelling at my husband and his assistants. He just said that he does not want to double his work as he wanted to rush home. We did not expect this kind of behaviour from a paediatrician at least. The doctors in government hospitals also do not behave in such horrible manner. They also take care of lot of patients but at least they treat them like humans.
After the birth of my baby we were consulting the same paediatrician as he was referred to us by our relatives. And I am sure that this was the last visit to him and I do not want to take my baby again to him as his behaviour really bugged me and my husband. We do not care about money but we care about baby’s health. Now we are looking for new paediatrician in Mumbai, a paediatrician who is not money minded and who will not take my baby’s health for granted.
