My daughter wants to learn Bharatnatyam but I would like to know what are the prerequisites of learning this classical dance form?

The minimum age to join dance class is 4 yrs. The most important prerequisite for learning bharatnatyam is an interest in dance. The child should have an intrinsic willingness to learn dance. One should have patience to learn dance as this is not a short course.

I have noticed that parents want immediate results. As soon as the kids join a dance class, they expect their kids to be a pro but if learning Bharatnatyam then, parents and students must be willing to invest time. It is a lifelong art.A lot of hard work goes into learning this dance form.

Punctuality, Regularity, Obedience and discipline are utmost importance for learning dance. I have been learning dance since past 6 yrs. My guru says that it is important to be completely immersed in dance. Dance should be the soul.
