Daliya (Faada ni Khichdi)

Ingredients:
Daliya (broken wheat)
French beans (phansi)
Carrots
Onions
Garlic
Red chilli powder
Haldi powder
Dahi (yogurt) - as an accompaniment to daliya
Oil
Salt
Method
Roast daliya until brown. Keep stirring occasionally to prevent it from getting burnt. This step could take 15-20 minutes.
Then in a cooker, heat some oil and saute onions and garlic. Once brown, add french beans, carrot pieces, chilli powder, haldi powder and salt. Let the vegetables cook for 5 minutes. Then add roasted daliya and water (3 cups of water for every one cup of daliya). Add additional salt if required. Cook in the cooker for 3 whistles. Mix once ready. Garnish with corriander leaves.
For the dahi preparation (optional), a perfect accompaniment to the daliya, heat oil in a small tadka pan to saute crushed garlic and red chilli powder. Add this tadka to the dahi for taste and colour.
Enjoy your daliya with garlic-flavoured dahi and toast!
(Note: This type of daliya preparation is also called faada ni khichdi. Also, the grain used for daliya and laapsi is the same, except that laapsi is sweet)
