Now that we are mid of the month.. half of you must have become moms.. Congratulations to all new moms and good luck to the expecting ones.
I visited the doc on Wed, 28th Feb for a routine check-up and my baby girl had a surprise waiting for me, she had turned a full 180 degrees and was now a breech. In the previous week' s scan she seemed all set for delivery the normal way.
Since I was due on March 2nd, the doc asked if I would opt for an elective C.. obviously I had waited, exercised prayed for a normal delivery, but now I had to change my mind for my darling baby. The doc also mentioned there are good chances the baby will turn back to cephalic, which she did the next morning. On March 1st doc did an internal and found out the baby was way up and not anywhere close to getting engaged.
We had scheduled a C at 4pm on 1st march. My mom-in-law is a gyne too, and the doc a good friend of mom-in-law. I knew whatever decision they made for me was best for me. My amniotic fluid was on the higher side, which gave enough room for my baby to do her frequent 180 degree turns. There was no gurantee the baby will remail in cephalic position untill I went to labor on my own. With head not being engaged at all, the docs said I would be in a long labor and still didn' t promise a good chance for normal delivery. Hence opted for the C.
The good thing about an opted C is you get to plan everything. I was working untill Feb 28th, the day before Diya was born. My hubby took off from March 1st, called in Mom-in-law on 28th, she arrived on 1st morning, met the anesthesist on 1st morning, may sound ridiculous, but the doc asked me for a choice of time (you know how important time of birth is in India), we checked with the astrolger and 1st March was a very auspicious day, and were told 4 to 5.30 was a very good time.. so it was all set.
Hubby, Mom and mom-in-law were all there with me throughout the day. We had informed our relatives in Bangalore (atleast 10 of them), who were all waiting outside the OT by 4pm.
I was admitted to the ward at 12noon, was prepared for the surgery at 3pm and taken to the OT at 4. My family was with me, and it felt so different. I still had a little regret for not having a normal delivery, however thanks to many of my friends and relatives who went through labor pains for hours and had to be taken for an emergency C convinced me that I didn' t have to go through the pain. I was finally convinced and went brave and happy into the OT.
As was discussed with the aneshtesist earlier, I was given a spinal. At 4.32pm my little angel Diya was born. They showed her to me as soon as she was born, they cleaned her and brought her back and put her on my chest. She looked adorable, was all pink and red. She was 3.2kgs and 50cms long. She had 2 loops of cord round her neck, so opting for C was an excellent decision in the end.. since the short cord may not let her get engaged and I may had to go for a emergency C otherwise.
While the docs were stiching me up, Diya was taken to her Dad, Grandmas and relatives for a first look. I was taken to post op room for about 2 hours untill the anesthesia weaned off. Was back in the room by 8.15 pm.. it was all over and I was now with my sweet little baby.
