Due Date Club October 2006:Breast Milk

Dear All and Archie,

I have heard in my prenatal classes and read material (ample) which stresses that new borns need to be fed exclusively on mother’s milk for 6 months. Now what I am wondering is…how does one do this, since my Maternity Leave including and clubbing all my leave will come to about 4 months and my company may not agree on a no pay leave/ work form home option.

Archie, how do mothers manage this? Or feeding exclusively for 4 months should be fine?

Please, it would be helpful if others also respond on what they feel about this aspect and how do they intend to handle the situation.

Thanks and loads of love
Shraddha

Hey shraddha ,

i am from Dec'06 board and since i am amidst change, my maternity leave is going to be pretty bad, just around 2-3 months ... but this si what i am thinking of doing ... most of the companies do have mother's room where u can pump the milk periodically and there would be also be fridge there ..or we can always buy a portable fridge to keep in the office , then it is the matter of transportation to home , maybe i am thinking of using frreze boxes we get at Walmart, etc. The breast milk will be good if kept in the fridge for few days. So jsut before giving it to the baby, whoever is taking care of the baby can just bring it to room temperature and feed the baby ....

this is my rough paln, i ahve not don much research on it ...

others, specially second tiem moms, let me also know if you see any hitches/problems in this plan ??

Thanks,
-P
