Due Date Club October 2006:question for Archie and everyone

Hi Archie and all,

I am in my 28th week now, and at the completion of my 27th week, i had my GD test done. I failed the one hr test and was sent yesterday for a 3 hr test with 100mg glucose drink. Again, i was found to have elevated levels. My fasting level was 100 mg/dl, at 1 hr it was 205mg/dl, at 2hrs it was 156mg/dl and at 3hrs it was 124mg/dl. Nurse said that my fasting was a little elevated, 1 hr was high , 2 hrs was one point more than normal cutoff and 3 hrs was normal. She said there's nothing to worry. Archie, I try not to get tensed, nut iam so worried if this will bother my baby in any way. I have decided to cut down on carbs and sugar. How soon can I bring down the levels with careful mointoring of my diet? In case iam cutting down suddenly on my carbs and sugar, will my baby suffer because of sudden drop in sugar? will his movement patterns change because i have cut down on sugars and carbs? i am meeting an endocrinologist for this issue, but it looks like it might take some time for me to meet him/her. I want to ease my mind about this meanwhile. How do i make sure that my baby is fine? Please Archie, suggest on this. I understand that lot of GD women give birth to normal babies.. I am hoping for the same in my case. Hoping to see your reply.

Thanks

Anu,
having 2cm excess fundus height than actual gestation is within the statistical limits and you should not be worried on tha.t Besides in third trimester it can match only a few times not always, this is due to fetal position and sparse growth of baby.

your cutting down sugar or carbs won't affect baby at all! Don't worry on that part, it will help baby and you both to lead pregnancy at an ease from here onwards.

Archie

Subject:  one more addition to my question

Archie,

At my 27th week completion, my OB measured my fundus height and said that i measure 29 week gestation, and said that it is a good sized baby. Is growth of the baby 2 weeks more than the actual gestational age ok?? i am concerned because i am currently diagnosed with GD. My OB was not aware of my GD as the day she did the physical exam was the day i went in for a 1 hr glucose test. Please throw some light on this.

Thank you very much

Hi Person,
